The Oblivion method of skill raising is the most realistic, but there's no strategic element to it - you can easily end up as a master-of-all-trades, making all choices moot.
You gain hit points each level, too.
And is it so unbelievable that someone could teach you to become more dexterous? Or teach you to become stronger? (Or, more correctly, to apply your strength better?)

Yes. Yes it fucking is. I could go with it if it took in-game time, but you simply give a guy some cash and he says "Here you go!" and bam, +5 Dex.
What fucking next? Find a bobblehead, gain Intelligence? Oh wait

And how is that different from the Risen where you get generic "talent points" you can exchange for anything you want anyway? Except you need to ask a stranger to up your stats for you?
