That wasn't the ending I saw at all. :o
I bet it's because I saw the basic cable censored version or something. Like hell I'd go out of my way and pay money to watch Turner and Hooch. Well, that was before. Now that I know about this new ending, I might have to reconsider my stance.

Basically, the lure technique is well-advised. Learn it. Live it. Learn to creep up on a group and only attract one enemy at a time. It takes a bit of patience, but you can lure them all one-at-a-time, and deal with them easily enough. Also, use the environment to your advantage. Eg. get on top of a rock where they cannot reach you and bow and arrow/magic/or hopefully just sword them to death.

Given how it costs a lot more to upgrade skills in NotR, you're probably better off focusing on two or three skills before you consider branching out. If you're using swords, dump all your points in strength, get your sword skill up later. Strength allows you to do much more damage and use better weapons, sword skill will improve your chances of getting critical hits and give you longer combs, both of which are more of a bonus than a necessity.
Personally I wouldn't put any points in Archery or Magic if you're already buffing other skills.
The beginning of NotR is hard as nails, but once you reach middle/end of chapter 2 you'll be flying along.

I think it's more real men do not believe the world is like Disneyland and they do not act like a little boy who believe mommy will care for him.
Ok that's a stupid binary - "you don't like X so you must want of [complete opposite of X]"

Contrarily to what some people seem to think, Gothic is not a game that kills the player every five minutes. I will agree there is not enough world information or graphical feedback to evaluate the danger of an encounter, but once you learn to flee a battle you are losing, surviving is not that hard. Gothic 1 and 2 didn't have the stunlock problem of Gothic 3.
Having said that, the design of Gothic's core gameplay is so different than most other RPG, that, from my point of view, it create a dichotomy in the genre.

I do actually want to give Gothic2 another go (never played the original). I recall finding it kind of frustrating running in circles around a small area trying to find killable foes to drag my experience up. Maybe I was just doing something wrong.

Yeah, stick in town and do quests there for most of the first chapter. You can venture out and explore, but you have to be really damn careful and bring lots of health potions along to keep yourself alive. Also, you should never have to grind for experience in any of the Gothics. By the time you're strong enough, most of your XP will come about just by exploring the island and fighting whatever you come across on your quest to find neat stuff.

the previous post was totally an excuse to post that picture.
NO.
There is never any excuse to post that picture.
Ever.
In other news, this thread is not at all making me look forward to playing Gothic 2 (I bought the same version). It will be helpful in preparation for it, though. And I'll got Gothic off of GoG and play it first.

Well, or The Terminal, or Big, or Forrest Gump, or Cast Away, or even Philadelphia...

Ha. Shows how much you know, I had a perfectly valid excuse. That was a canon ending! Well, someone's ending, anyway.

A canon ending? I absolutely agree. All of those pictures should be balled up and shot out of a cannon. *rimshot* ;)

Hush, you. ;) The only RPG I've played (discounting FPS/RPG hybrids) is Lord of the Rings: Return of the King. I have the right to be a bit nervous.
