I remember when I first tried Gothic (1). It's retardedly backwards control scheme, annoyingly high difficulty, random crashes and the menu item icons not showing up on ATI cards completely turned me off from this game. I am redownloading it again from GoG, lets go for attemp #2

Its a risk versus reward scenario like any game. And its more realistic. If your sporting a t-shirt and stick, you don't go poking your nose in the Cave of Radiant Evil.
Quick Trick -Never walk in the front door of the town at the beginning. There's another way, damn near impossible, but rewards accordingly.

Is there a widescreen/Texture mod for G2?
Nameless Voice on 21/7/2010 at 17:16
Widescreen doesn't need a mod, try Googling: (

There is a texture mod for Gothic 2, but it changes the textures too much they don't look like the original game any more (and I don't think they're even particularly good quality), so I wouldn't use that.

Gothic 1 doesn't work in Win7 x64 with NVidia cards :( (it crashes almost immediately and has hideous graphic errors). Apparently they fixed it in the 260 drivers. Current ones are 259 so hopefully it will be playable sometime next week?

both gog.com versions with above patches applied work on my win7 x64.....with (!) Nvidia drivers.

I have the disc version of the game, since GoG doesn't offer it in German.
And check that quote of yours in my previous post again, more closely this time. ;)
