Excellent, I've been looking for an excuse to play through G3. Shame the expansion was so god-awful, I uninstalled it after 30 minutes as it was so broken.

Does it have any significant effect on the load and save times?
To me, Gothic 3 was the weakest of the three Gothic games, but it was still fun.
What really killed it for me, to the point that I stopped after completing it once and never looked back, was the insane 2+ minute load times (and equally insane save times). Considering how easy it could be to suddenly get killed by a creature if they got you into a combat lock... urgh.

Well I only can compare between 1.5 and 1.7, but the load times haven't dropped significantly. Do note I have never experienced load times anywhere near 2 minutes, much shorter. But it is said that a bug causing slow loading times when vsync was enabled is fixed now.
The patch is quite comprehensive, it adds an optional 'Alternate Balancing' mode that tweaks the skill tree and experience points and it adds an optional improved melee AI.
The patch also fixes a ton of other stuff.. Gothic3 now finally allows me to view the world with full anti-aliasing, including the grass and leaves. Very pretty.

Well, it's true that I always played Gothic 3 (and, in fact, pretty much everything) with vsynch set to Force On, but I seem to recall that turning it made it tear badly and off didn't give me any significant change to load times.
I played with the 1.5 patch I think.
