Have they fixed Gothic 3 yet?
Judith on 24/5/2007 at 09:01
Nope, the only way of "fixing" Gothic 3 is to buy Core2Duo and good GPU :joke: It's not likely that we'll see another patch, Piranha Bugs officialy cancelled their support for this game and for the franchise as a whole a few days ago, leaving it all in hands of their publisher, JoWood. The latter company wants to hire another studio for Gothic 4, but I don't know whether there will be a patch for G3, we only know there was one in the works.

That's a joke, right? Putting out a buggy game, pocketing the money for it, and then dropping support? Now, that's a business model. :(

Gothic without PB? Console focused development? WTF?

I think I am finished with Gothic series after being through 1/4 of G2 and then being totally bored by it.
I will always remember the atmosphere of the first one.

The developers have lost money on G3, despite it selling 500,000+ copies, though JoWood's zest for G4 suggests they have done rather well from it. PB were also ordered to release the title as is in November, after self funding for six months to get it into a better state and having had the title itself forced on them (originally they were doing another G2 expansion, but were ordered to switch to G3). And if it assuages your righteous indignation any, this will probably put them out of business.
And that is a shame. I was lucky and G3 ran perfectly for me, I had one bug, fewer crashes than Oblivion and decent framerates at 1400x900 with full details (on a 256mb 7600, so hardly the bleeding edge). It had more humour, more ambition and more sheer personality than all the rest of the current crop of 'action rpgs' put together.

Yes, they were forced to an early release, but I thought they were funded by Jowood to patch it up until now. They took too long, without major result (no mega patch, though something like that was in the works), and Jowood decided they won't finance them anymore. Or did I miss something?
Anyway, I just can't blame PB for what happened. They should've been allowed to work more on G3, and release it when it's ready. The Gothic brand is pretty unique and original among todays games, and I'm quite sure noone else other than PB could make a game like this again. So, naturally, I'm not so enthusiastic about G4 this way...

Hopefully PB can find a better publisher and work a better game out of it. Or are they going bust after this?:(
