And I can't even get Gothic 1 to run on my PC :(

Yes, they were forced to an early release, but I thought they were funded by Jowood to patch it up until now. They took too long, without major result (no mega patch, though something like that was in the works), and Jowood decided they won't finance them anymore. Or did I miss something?
As I understand it they were being funded to do an expansion, with work on patching concurrent. As the expansion is no longer funded neither is the patch, and IIRC PB does not have its own testing facilities to work on a patch independently.

There were probably going to have been run out of business by the German government anyways.
Very sad.

Why, fierce competition on the market and management dilettantism are far more efficient killers of companies.

Too bad. I liked the older Gothic games, even Gothic 3. Only problem I have with Gothic 3 is that it's very RAM hungry. When I play it, my comp use about 1.4GB of RAM and I only have 1GB so the swapfile has to work quite a bit. Didn't find it particulary demanding on the CPU or GPU.
I doubt the 4th chapter of the series will be fun or immersive if Piranha Bytes isn't behind it.

And if it assuages your righteous indignation any, this will probably put them out of business.
I don't want PB out of business I want a working copy of G3. :) I always loved G1 and was quite impressed with the AI and the overall atmosphere. It was easily among the best games I have played so far. I also liked G2, but I haven't played it through yet, because TDM got in the way, but I definitely will. G1 and G2 also had starting problems, but at least they became stable after some time. It's a shame if PB would go out of business, because they made at least a big effort to make a good game (which can not be said for a lot of other companies).
I applied for a job there as a programmer, because I live basically next door to them, but they turned me down, because they didn't consider me a game programmer back then. *PFFF* as if this has any meaning. :ebil:

They do look good. But I sure hope they don't forget to pay some attention to the vistas, good vistas are much harder to implement well than foggy, close quarter city locations.

Here's hoping it sees the light of day.
