Not very Gothic like is it? Nobody complains when you wander into their houses, the wildlife attacks straight away instead of threatening, crafting is done by clicking buttons instead of using forges and cooking pots etc. There wasn't any exploration or any hint of Gothic's trademark faction system in the demo (but perhaps that was just because it was the starter village?).
Ah well, at last Piranha Bytes is working on Risen 2.

How about you at least play the demo for yourself and form your own opinion before completely writing off? This behaviour is exactly what Poetic Thief was talking about in the Venetica thread. I thought you knew better, gunsmoke.
Although it isn't as bad Dethtoll's tendency to write off games and services without playing/using them for arbitrarily stupid and/or petty reasons. I'd play with anything by an epic dick.
So I tried the demo, and it's... decent. Not eye-wateringly bad, but not terribly good either.
You play random shepherd boy running around doing errands and fetch quests as 'tests' before he can marry his lady love, and no doubt he's 'special' in some way (one of these days, I'm gonna make a game where such portentousness just means that your player character is slightly retarded), and there's trouble brewing in the air. So far, so much blandly generic RPGing.
Combat is way too easy on Normal, and there's superficial things that may make it seem like a Gothic game but it is, on the whole, a bit too shallow. Also, if I hear that witch's cackling voice ONE MORE TIME I'm going to shove all those lightning scrolls up her ass. (Witch: *cackling leer* Whaaat's up??)
The game's pretty in places, though. As a consequence, it also requires a goddamn god box on super-high details to run at 60 FPS. As it is, I get a 40-50 average on a 4890 HD with a core i5 750 on High detail at 1280x960. YMMV.

Played the demo. There are a lot of things I didn't like. Too linear, too easy (haven't died once in the whole demo, except when I tried swimming in to the sea), combat is mostly just mashing LMB till enemy dies, no sidequests, didn't like the way camera zooms in when you have an conversation, skill tree doesn't look good. Overall not much like previous Gothic games.
But I'll still probably play it when it comes out, because it's one of rare games series that I enjoyed. Even if it's bad a bad game, I'll give it a try. And then just wait for Risen 2 and hope it'll be a good game.

So the game is out (at least here in Europe). It is a bit better than the demo but still not good as Gothic 1 & 2 (or Risen). It does open up a bit, there are sidequests, open lands to explore once you get to the main island. Playing on Hard and it is chalenging, died a few times.
