Rockstar Toronto just plain sucks, they made the Bully PC port too, it was horrible and they still havent cared about making any patches for it.
Do NOT make the same mistake as i did (supporting this developer).

Bully on PC requires pixel/vertex shader 3.0, for a game that was originally on PS2? I don't get it.

It's a port of the 360 version, which featured significant graphical upgrades.

This is a shame. I bought GTA: San Andreas last month in anticipation of GTA IV and am enjoying it. Now I will not even consider going near this game until a patch is released addressing these issues. Redundant bloatware, aggravating performance, abysmal nvidia support, and questionable DRM for the low price of $49.99? How do these developers get away with this kind of sloppiness?

Goodness.. I am downloading it from Steam at the moment but from what I read here.. I am dreading and regretting my purchase. I bought in faith because GTA3, GTA Vice City and GTA San Andreas, all 3 being console ports, were very well done on the PC. Looks like Rockstar Toronto really fucked this up. And if my Core 2 Quad, 2GB RAM, 9800GTX rig can't run this game, I am going POSTAL!

Does not recognize GeForce 8600 and 8800 cards? Two of the most popular GPUs available, and from a major manufacturer?
Fails to accurately judge your system specs, and then refuses to let you change the graphics settings?
Hangs on loading for five minutes because it needs to download a file from overloaded servers every time you start the game?
Jesus. And I thought the Bioshock rollout was botched.

I believe it said it doesn't support 8600 and 8800's in SLI mode not that it doesn't support the cards at all. That's still bad but I thought I might point that out.

And given that there is an offline mode, I doubt it needs to download a file every time you start it, just when you first start it. Presumably doing an offline installation voids the need for you to register with Live and Rockstar Social Club.

I've gotten it to work better now. I get an average FPS of 35-45 in 1680x1050, i've fiddeled around with like a million things so i have no idea what i did.
Texture Quality: Medium
Render Quality: Highest
View Distance: 100
Detail Distance: 100
Vehicle Density: 50
Shadows: 16
Turned off V-Sync (forced off) in controll panel, turned off "clip feature" in game.
I wouldnt want to play this game with their minimum or even recommended requirements.. i tried it on a computer which is between recommended and minumum, it runs at 7-8 FPS (lowest possible settings, could get it to run at 1024x768 at like 20 FPS though - looked horrendous).
I've never gotten the game to work while logged in to Social Club, have to log out for it to even work.
The lack of AA makes the game look quite ugly, lots of flickering jaggies everywhere, though you can press "p" to soften out the picture a bit, helps but you will, obviously, loose detail, it's crap compared to real AA. The filtering of shadows and leaves is very ugly. There's quit a bit of "draw in" in the game, when you turn around with the mouse, buildings will be "painted in" (takes like 1 sec) also very ugly imo, there's no setting to tweak this either. Textures will sometimes flicker, sometimes the ground texture has disapeared and become just grey (which your legs/feet and the car wheels will disapear into). On the positive side: the game has never crashed and alt+tab works fine it seems. The game can look fantastic, at times.

The 360 version has this weird looking "level of detail" filter that can't be turned off. It's hard to describe, objects from a certain distance onwards look smudged. Did they remove it from the PC port?
