The PC textures and lighting looks far superior on that video. But then it is a video of a video...

I bought it and cannot even install the game... It recognizes disc 1 at the start of the install but not at the end. very likely a result of the DRM shit. cannot get a refund and the tech support has been hopeless.

Just got the new patch which adds some extra video options but even dropping everything but resolution (since 1680x1050 is the only 16:10 res supported) to absolute minimum, I still couldn't get better than 20-30 fps on my E8400 and GTX260 during standard outdoor gameplay. And on any setting less than high, the shadows seem to flicker abhorrently in addition to being ugly as fuck in the first place.

Wow. GTA has ALWAYS been a series that has been EXTREMELY well optimized for PC and very friendly to lower end hardware of the time. This is such an anomaly for the series...:nono:

Welcome to the new era of PC gaming.

It's true. And I don't think it's going to get any better, especially when the new gen of consoles hits.
I think with Rockstar the tech support tries to ensnare you in an endless loop of sending screenshots and tech files and forwarding your problem to SecuROM in the hopes that you will eventually just give up patience... rather than ever conceding they are incompetent pricks who should refund your money.

Looks like I'll be getting this for the PS3 after all... :(

Welcome to the new era of PC gaming.
Yeah, unfortunately this is why I am losing interest in the new PC games. I still love my legacy games on PC, but something just changed after VISTA came out. STALKER was one of the last great scalable games. To bad the expansion isn't.
GTA IV is a bit extreme, though.

This isn't Vista's fault, its Rockstar's.

It might not be Vista's fault per se, but putting it in terms of the Vista-era is still sort of fair in defining the general features of a period ... the market and how publishers generally think these days. It just seems like part of a bigger trend than a mere oversight by Rockstar.
