I second this one. The story does lose some steam along the way (it would've been better if tightened by 2-3 volumes IMO), but it's got one of the best endings I've ever read in the medium. Those last few pages... Amazing.
I like Vaughan's other work too, e.g.
Pride of Baghdad (some heavy-handed historical parallels, but worth it for the gorgeous art already) and
Runaways (it's very much teen-oriented, but it's fun, witty, poignant - but best read in large format, which makes the art come alive in a way that the small format doesn't).
Ex Machina is very good in parts, but it's extremely uneven and suffers from
Lost Syndrome IMO.
