So I created a piece of furniture, gave it one of Christine's gorgeous models, and used it to cover a secret room. I linked it to a switch via control device, gave it the script "StdDoor" and added "Door -> Translating (5.00 X-Axis)" to it. When I flip the switch, it works as intended: the big wardrobe slides 5 units to the side, and reveals the passage behind it! But wait! Something about it looks weird:

Uncheck blocks vision on the door property. IIRC you have to portalize before the black rectangle goes away.

You do. The black rectangle is the door's portal which causes stuff behind closed doors from being rendered. If you make a door and then change its model to serve a purpose like this, you'll need to do as Larry said and then portalize.

Thank you guys, this worked! :D
Still have so much to learn about Dromed. Now I have a similar-ish problem with using an object as a door that should block Garrett's actions: I've hidden a switch behind a painting, and the painting does have physical borders so he can't just lean through it, but he can frob the switch behind the painting even when the painting is still in front of it.

Try
Inventory-->block frob
on the painting

Thanks, that worked!
