okay, i got the other dx cd and it all works and everything, but now there's a problem with the sound. the voices are really skippy. the sample guy("i speil my drrrink") sounds like "ik spkill myk dkrink" and sometimes, like just a few minutes ago, some one will be speaking and it'll sound like this :(the original is "i didn't know the nsf had so many people in new york.") "i d-n't -ow -e n-f -ad -o m-ny p-pl in n-w y-rk." why does this happen? i've tweaked and tweaked the sound settings, and i can't get it fixed. this happened my first time i installed it, with the original cd, and i did something and it stopped. does a patch fix this? i don't recall downloading one, but maybe i did. help, pleeeeease. i finally got deus ex again and i was really looking forward to playing it again..but now...ergh...this just ices my cake(in a bad way)

Can't help much without knowing your system specs ie: Soundcard, Operating System, Memory, Processor type/speed etc but try turning off 3D sound, turning down the number of sound channels or even using low sound quality.

okay, yeah, i shoulda put the specs there, but it doesn't matter now...i downloaded this patch and it doesn't seem to do it as much. if it happens i can turn my view to look at something else and they don't skip.

Hi bionicman,
It might have something to do with your soundcard and/or the drivers you are currently using. What are your systemspecs?
At (

Try also posting this message in the techhelp forum....
Hope this helps,

thinkin'...this didn't happen with the original, so maybe it is just my configuration.
not quite sure what you want, so here's what it says under "sound, video, and game controllers"
creative sb live! value
NABTS/SEC VIB codec
wavetop (tm) NABTS/CC VBI codec
it has other stuff but i know that it doesn't pertain to sound. by pulling down other menus, i found other things:
creativ sb16 emulation
nvidia riva tnt2 model 64 (gateway - english)
thats it other than the fact that i have "boston" speakers (i forget the model) that sound like they've been blown out. i turned down my system sound and they seem to work okay. i think thats why my "s" are always hissed in dx.
just as a side, i was playing last night, and while i was talking to maggie chow, her voice kept going deep and metallic sounding...it was weird cause it sounded like shodan.
and on that note....how many voices can you spot in shodan's voice from other looking glass games? one is garret from thief. i think jc is stuck in there...but i'm not sure. i know that looking glass didn't make dx, but eidos pbulished both...so maybe eidos has employed voice over people. i know that blizzard used that same girl for kerrigan from starcraft and the rogue character model for diablo I.
and on THAT note, anna's voice is also the voice of that russian chick in metal gear solid...natalia something. speaking of mgs... the colonel's voice is the same guy who reads the books for you in diablo I. gunther's voice is also brink's from that jewl of a lucasarts game the dig. AND the russian sailors are voiced by the same guy who did minsc in the baldur's gate seriers.
anyone spot any other's?

Hi bionicman,
Try installing the 6.18 drivers for your tnt card as these are the best for TNT based cards. Later drivers are optimised for geforce cards You can download them (
http://guru3d.com/download/nvidia.shtml) here What driver you should use for the sBlive I don't know as I have an aureal based card. Perhaps disabeling EAX in windows helps?
Also try headphones or different speakers because you might have blown your speakers.
BTW, do you have onboard sound or video on you motherboard? This might cause conflicts (it did for me in systemshock1)
Hope this helps.
I really love music and sound in games. They make or brake the game.
Steve Rusell did te voice for Garrett, Benny, some other guards, haunts, the Trickster and Karras in the Thief series. In System shock2 he did the Many, Edward Diego, Xerxes and the hybrids.
Terri Brosius is the voice of Victoria in the Thief series and Shodan in the systemshock series.
In different lucasarts games the same voice actors are used .
The hotel owner (mr goodsoop) in monkey island3 and captain valasco and one of the communist in Grim Fandango are done by the same voice actor
Especially in low-budget games it is clear that one person is doing all the voices. Just listen to the voices in the first Discworld adventure game. Most of the voices (dibbler, beggar etc) are done by the guy who plays Baldrick in the Black Adder series! The others are done by a former member of Monty Python.
Oh, and the guy who did the voiceover in Baldurs gate (the "dungeonmaster") also does some voices in icewind dale (fighters) and in monkey island 3 he's the voice for king andre I believe.
The woman who does the voice of the vulture leader in Full Throttle also does some voices in Icewind dale (fighters, mages).
When I have time I'll watch some credits.
Cheers,
Whisky

there's a pattern here, y'know. i always seem to be the one who responds the most in my own threads...weird.
i remembered today that the guy who does the intro to fallout 2 also does the voice for the nameless one in planescape: torment. also, irenicus in baldur's gate II is voiced by that one british actor guy (he played the evil dude in tron). not sure what his name is.
and, since this is a pretty good idea for a thread, i'm moving the voices part of this thread to "general gaming". the technical support thing will stay, so if your lookin to post some more about voices, go to "shared voices" in general gaming. that might not be the title, but look for something similar.
