It's from that archive that fibanocci posted, I tried several from it... maybe they are the problem?
For example, I opened bell3.3ds in the Thief II obj folder.
Correction: "Imported" to be specific.

The 3ds file might be corrupt. If you converted a Thief bin file, try another. Some objects from the Enhancement Pack are very high poly, and the conversion tools might generate a 3ds file, but it will not be a proper one. Crates (wcratec.bin) are simple enough, so try that.

I couldn't find that specific crate, so I tried a banner and had the same result. I'll give it a try with a fan made object.

I have to learn how to convert a .bin with DEOCI; I'm having trouble coming up with a .3ds file to experiment with.
Lol, it's like the woman who swallowed the horse at this point; I have to keep coming up with ways to convert one thing to another in the hopes that it will solve one problem but only leads to another. :tsktsk:
Thanks for the help, but I'm feeling hopeless on this one. I don't want to waste anyone's time with this.

I must be a masochist because I just can't stop bashing my head on this problem. I just really want to make objects.
I got DEOCI ((
http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=141601) from here) up and running, but when I click on convert, the program tells me that BintoE "Didn't work. Cannot continue". I'm not sure if Eto3ds works because it just stops trying to convert at that point. I got those .exe files in the "Free the Objects kit located (
http://www.angelfire.com/games4/shadowspawn/Tools.html) here.
Are they simply outdated and should I have downloaded them elsewhere?
If I could just convert the .bin to a .3ds then I could check to see if I can open it in Anim8or.

The conversion tools are fine.
What happens if you use a .bin file from Thief2\RES\obj.crf (open with Winzip or 7zip etc)?

You probably have a bad Anim8or install. I use Import all the time with .3ds and .obj files, no problems. Download the latest version of the Anim8or program in the file animv098.zip (
http://www.anim8or.com/download/index.html) here.

That was the problem, I installed the version you pointed me to. I'm not sure why, but I had v90c
Anyways, everything appears to be working now. Thank you all so very much for your help! Hopefully now I'll get to make some awesome objects for my Fallout style mission.
