What can be more fun than jumping over some hole again and again, again and again? Dying, reloading, jumping? Just because someone thought that it would be hilarious to make a jump distance almost as big as the ideal jump can reach in this game. Jump-reload-jump-reload-jump-reload. Fascinating! Oh, there is some small hack: if you run sideway you can reach slightly more velocity and jump further. Obviously the FM author knows about that too, so there isn't even a chance to jump over that hole like a normal player. Jump-jump-jump! Jump sidway, jump backwards, forwards, jump-jump-jump!
I'm sick of it.

I don't like that, too ... but as long as the author provides a speed potion I don't care. Same for long underwater passages, a speed potion can help a lot.
If not ... there are enough other FMs I can play instead. It's a game ...

Oh well, if that's the worst part.. Remember Fan Mission authors spend their free time on making something they don't earn any money with and most of them are very likely not experts in level making either. Just appreciate what they make and if you think something could be done better just share your thoughts with the author so he or she can improve on their next fan mission.

I agree with A. Stahl, holes are bad boys, I think all holes should be banned, so much so I'm going to write a stern letter to the Times newspaper as well as my local member of parliament.

Typical cop-out excuse.

What mission are you talking about?
trefoilknot on 25/1/2022 at 16:44
If you're talking about Dielya, I agree. I tried my best to make the jump as user friendly as possible (within the constraints I was working with) but it's still a mess.

I intentionally haven't mentioned the concrete name. Almost impossible jumps (or even worse -- jumps that force players to use engine bugs like higher side movement speed) isn't a good practice. Very-very-very isn't.

If it's Reverse Robbery, none of the jumps require strafe jumping, because I can't figure out how to do it. But yes, people have complained about the jumps there...

I remember that 3 Distinct Adventures Mission 2 had series of really tough strafe jumps with mantling at the end. What I didn't know that there is tiny switch spawning speed potion to help you with jumps. The first time I played it was tough to do. My second attempt after couple of years was much easier - did this section without any problems. So I would say, this kind of obstacle is actually a good practice. Though it would probably be better if this kind of challenge was a secret instead of obligatory path.
