Ok, so did anyone grab this when it was on special over the weekend? I did, and I aint that happy with it.
First of all, the original gta 1 + 2 dont even work, constant crash to desktop after the loading screen.(checked steam forums, this is happening to lots of people) and compatability mode doesnt seem to work. Ok, so that didnt faze me too much as the real reason I got the pack was for San Andreas.
Why, you ask? Well my original SA disc has a massive crack running through it, so it dont work no more. So I had been using a euro v1.1 nocd crack to get the game to run, but I was getting a few odd glitches and crashes which had never occured before, so when the Steam deal showed up I thought it a great chance to get a legit copy of the game, and not have to worry about discs, plus I like all my games in the one library.
Loaded the game, went into the display menu, and what do we have here? no widescreen resolutions. WTF, the original game that I have had widescreen support, which was released in fucking 2005. Do you know how shit SA looks on a 16:9 monitor in 1280 x 1024? Quite.
Ok, not too big a deal, pretty sure there will be a fix for it I think to myself, so I toddle off to the steam forums. Right, so everyone is having the same issue it seems, but hang on there is a solution to enable the widescreen resolutions THAT CAME WITH THE ORIGINAL GAME.
So what is this remarkable fix - well it seems that what you have to do is d/l the EURO V1.1 NOCD CRACK AND REPLACE THE EXE IN THE STEAM GAMES FOLDER
H E A D E X P L O D E S :wot:
so anyway as curiosity, I d/l and installed the original GTA 3. Runs fine, and hello whats this? It has 16:9 resolution support! WTF!
So why did Rockstar make such a lazy steam version of the game?(SA that is). Its not even version 2.0, its v1.0 but with all the moddable shit taken out.
I think steam is great and has done wonders for pc gaming, but I feel a little ripped off, isnt the whole premise of steam to make games easier to play and with the latest support?
tl;dr - GTA complete pack is a bit ass

Regarding the first two games; iirc Steam sells its old games 'as is', unlike GOG.com. They don't seem to care if they work on modern OS, they simply sell it. And your San Andreas problem sucks. I am baffled how that would have even happened. I have the 1.0 and 1.1 discs (as well as the PS2 and Xbox versions of 1.0) and they all have widescreen support. Almost seems like they would have had to purposely ripped the feature out, as there doesn't seem to be a ver. on Earth that doesn't have WS in it.

I bought the pack but have barely tried anything from it yet, sounds pretty disappointing so far.
I gave GTA 1 a wee bash, it worked fine despite the edges in fullscreen being slightly off screen, so I miss out on a bit of text. Doesn't matter, that game isn't nearly as fun as I remember it, unfortunately. How the hell did I ever play it?
More disappointed about the widescreen resolution stuff. Especially since I
finally entered the world of widescreen gaming just a couple of weeks ago with a fancy new monitor. Though I have a suspicion that a fan-made widescreen mod for the steam versions will eventually emerge.
Nevertheless, I paid £5 for all these games, including GTA IV and the expansions, so I'm not really complaining - that alone for me (will be) worth the price alone (as soon as I have a computer that'll run them nicely).
EDIT: Gosh, look what just turned up

Rockstar removed a lot of (if not all) 16:9 resolutions from San Andreas in the v3.0 patch, I honestly have no idea why. Basically you have to downgrade to v1.01 for 16:9 support. Here's a (
http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1952458) legit v1.0/1.01 downgrader. (I believe that v1.0 is needed for some mods like Multi Theft Auto, IIRC.)
Stop jumping to conclusions without doing research, it's not Valve's fault that Rockstar chose to remove support for 16:9 resolutions from SA.

But he hasn't come to that conclusion you twit. It's right there in the text you quoted:

Yeah, except ALL versions copies of SA with the v3.0 patch would be affected. It's Steam/D2D/etc major online distribution service part and parcel to expect the latest version of a game (which would be v3.0 in this case).

You're provided the latest version of the game. Again it's not Valve's problem if Rockstar chose to remove 16:9 support in later patches. It's also pretty unreasonable to be officially want an older version of a legacy title from either Valve or Rockstar at this point. The development post-release support cycle has long since ended for the product. This is almost Lost_soul level of unrealistic expectation here.
SubJeff on 25/10/2011 at 20:37
It takes a while but you eventually bring out your idiocy. You've suggested that PigLick is blaming Valve, when he didn't. That's all there is to it. If V3.0 doesn't have widescreen support, and Rockstar provided the latest version to steam, then it's Rockstar's fault that there is no widescreen support. What does it have to do with Valve? Nothing, and you're the only one that made suggestion of a fault on Valve's part.

SO HOW ABOUT THAT GTA V EH GUYS
PigLick on 26/10/2011 at 00:21
totally blaming rockstar dude, essentially the steam version is just inferior to the original retail which doesnt make any sense, why did they change it? Anyway I just wanted to have a whine.
