Let me start this off by stating for the record that the GTA games are my least-favourite open world games of all time.
Having said that, they're landmark, monolithic achievements, and generally an event when they launch. So here's a goddamn trailer.

Also, it looks amazing, and I seriously doubt the current-gen consoles are going to do those visuals at that quality level at anything higher than 30 FPS. I wonder if the lack of Dan Houser means this one's going to be better or worse in the stories it tells.

I quite enjoyed GTA 3, so it's strange I never felt enthusiastic enough about a subsequent Rockstar game to buy one. I think it's because I found Thief around the same time, and by the time I emerged from the Boneyard, the market was saturated with open-world stuff.

Bonehoard? ;)
I admit I've never played a GTA game. The humour and style always rubbed me the wrong way. Graphics do look amazing here, but yeah, same old same old.

Oops. Yes. Here at the end of the semester I'm making small mistakes like that left and right. :nono:

Looks like shit. I mean if the graphics are actually in-game then it's somehow impressive, but everything around it feels like disease and brainrot. A game made to cater to the lowest of the low. I'm also not particularly thrilled about being forced to play as a woman in a GTA game. I don't care about her story, I don't want to go through it, I won't play it

GTA hasn't had a story worth anything since San Andreas. The gameplay is functional, but I've always had fun with them.
I've always gone back to them the most for driving around the maps, since I like driving in an open world like that.
But GTAV was important for me because of the modding & online scene. I scripted a show to make in it I think would be great, which is only preempted by the fact I scripted an even better show to make first in Red Dead Redemption 2.
I don't have any strong opinions about the upcoming GTA. If it mods even better than GTAV then I may switch my show to it, although I'm not sure since GTAV already has like almost a decade of work put into it already, it'd be a long time for GTA VI to catch up. But I think I'll like driving around in it.

Well, there's no PC version announced. It'll probably be 2026 when we see one, and even longer before a mod scene matures around it, so you're probably better off sticking with V or RDR 2 if you don't want to add a silly amount of years to your projects.

Looks gorgeous.
dema, just do your show in RDR2 and stop putting it off. ;)

I'm pretty much the opposite of Sulphur when it comes to GTA: I've enjoyed all of the games, even if I don't necessarily enjoy everything about them. I'm not in sync with GTA fans when it comes to Vice City, though: it's always been closer to the bottom of my own personal favourites list. '80s nostalgia doesn't do much for me - but more than that, I found the topography of Vice City boring. There's no verticality, it's all flat. I'm hoping that the map for GTA 6 will remedy this at least somewhat, though I expect that faux Miami will still tend towards the pancakey.

I feel like their last several games has just been a couple brother figures screaming at each other while things spiral out of control. Niko and Roman, Michael and Trevor, Arthur and Dutch. At least now it'll be a woman and a man screaming at eachother. It'll be different!
And I don't like the trajectory the gameplay has been on in their last few games. Feels like it's been downhill since... well since GTA:SA probably. I think most people disliked how restrictive the mission design of RDR2 was tho, so hopefully they've taken that feedback on board and will give players more agency in this one.
