Post edit: After just posting that code, I noticed there's new guard entries. This has got to be the issue. vguard7 and vguard8! Those are new and as far as I know don't exist. That would explain why 1-6 work, and then when thief hits vguard7 and vguard8, it can't find the sound files.
That was it. I got the speech.spc from someone, but in the zip there were no sound files for sg7 and sg8. I didn't notice until looking at the code again today that there were new lines for guards. I thought it just added lines for thieves. Sorry.
