Geez. Were those cartoons aimed at me???????
Oh my. I’m starting to get one of my panic attacks! Breath. Breath! Hold on. I’m going to get my paper bag just for occasions like this.
Whew. That’s better. I feel more in control now.
Most of you TTLG’ers seem to be emotionally stable, however if any of you ever start freaking out, here’s a little tip for the youngsters who may not know of it. If you’re having trouble breathing because you’re upset about something, you can put an ordinary paper bag over your head for several seconds, and believe it or not, you’re breathing will start to improve quite rapidly. I’ve even put a smiley face on my bag and named him “Mr. Happy”. Try it! :D
Anyway, I seem to have gotten off topic. Sorry.
I’m not going to bring up HL2 or it’s plot because that seems to get some people upset, but getting back to why I started this post in the first place.
I mentioned Indigo Prophecy earlier in this thread and think it’s a good example of what I mean as a game that at least attempted something a bit different.
Yes, the controls for the PC sucked, the stealth sucked even worse, and the story went to shit at the end. I won’t argue that.
But I found the first ¾ of the game more enjoyable than most other games I’ve played. The story grabbed me by the balls, and despite wanting to throw my monitor out the window more than once in frustration because of the crap controls, I kept going because the story was pretty unique for a video game. And I thought the pacing of it was very well done too for that first ¾’s as well. I even enjoyed the timed action and dialog sequences once I got used to the game’s awkward control scheme.
Think what you will of Cage or the game itself, for me it was a refreshing change from the usual copy and paste games we usually get. It was different. As was Omikron, another deeply flawed but very interesting game from this guy.
I’m not saying he's a gaming God or anything, but he at least tries unique gameplay options. I kind of wish I had a PS3 so I could try Heavy Rain, but I'm to old to learn how to use a controller haha.
I am going to try some of the indie games mentioned in this thread, matter of fact I’m downloading the demo for The Path as I type this. Maybe I’ll like it.
You never know.

mgeorge, have you checked out the Penumbra games? I also found Mirror's Edge to be rather unique and enjoyed it. It's quirky though.
I'm with you on the state of gaming, but there are some gems out there. They just aren't the games that get all the media coverage usually or get talked about a lot by the loud mouthed hardcore kiddies.
When I get bored of the latest releases, I tend to look to older PC games that I missed or consoles that I have little experience with. Sounds like what you do too somewhat.

Works waaayyyy better with a plastic bag, and for several minutes.

Plastic bag huh??? Mmmm. And several minutes??? Sounds kinda dangerous. I mean wouldn't you suffocate doing that???
I actually picked up the second Penumbra game at a yard sale recently for a whole buck but haven't tried it yet. I will do so.
Man, The Path sure is different. Not sure if I'll like it, but it sure is different.

I don't see a reason why it couldn't make for some co-op fun.
