I'm a little surprised at not having received any heads-up in my e-mail or something. I was, perhaps mistakenly, under the impression that it was common practice for when shutting an MMO down. I've been away for a week now and hadn't checked the forums or logged on in almost two, so it struck me a little bit out of the blue I guess.
Anyway, pity. Hardly shocking, but a pity nonetheless that they didn't manage to turn it around.

2 1/2 effing months?!?!?! Unacceptable and ridiculous.

To be honest, I think they should release the server code so people can set up their own servers. No idea why more failed MMOs don't do this.

Yesterday, I was @ Target in the game section. I saw APB on clearance ($24), and thought to myself "Self, that will make someone happy. Probably a fun game for people with a bunch of friends playing it". Then next day...this news comes of the servers shutting in not a month, but IMMEDIATELY. Still on the shelves, and I wonder how many folks are going to buy it AFTER this server shut-down, but haven't found out until they opened the box, installed, and attempted to log in the first time.

Agreed. That's just crazy.
This is also one of the reasons why I don't buy online-only games*. I'd be pissed off if a game became unplayable in 2 1/2 years, let alone 2 1/2 months.
* Although I do have a number of things which require online authentication, which is almost as bad. At least there's a chance of obtaining a crack for those, however.

So, are the servers off-line for good yet?
