Ok - first off, I like the idea of needing to acquire skill points in Deus Ex in order to become a master marksman, but I just finished playing Deer Hunter IV for the first time (not a ground breaking game, I know, but that's beside the point - read on) and I couldn't believe how realistic and GOOD the concept is of having to sight in your weapon prior to heading out into the field with it. Why couldn't this be done for Deus Ex? That way, one could theoretically become a master shot "right out of the box" instead of having to wait until the umpteenth level before enemies start falling with one shot (if you chose to upgrade computer skills first or whatever).
I know, I know - "but the game would be too easy then!!!" No...remember...rifle and weapon's scopes and sights are actually (in real life anyway) quite fragile, and need to be occasionaly readjusted in order for them to keep shooting on target. Ask any hunter - they'll tell you the same. Personally, I'd much prefer to have to sight in my rifle, pistol, or crossbow on occasion within headquarters or on the field than needing to acquire skill points. The game is great the other way too - genius concept this whole skill point thing. Still, I'm just presenting another option. Know what else is nice about this kind of feature?
It's realistic.
Read that again...
It's R-e-a-l-i-s-t-i-c.
So, what do you think? Doable? Or trash the idea? Wanna keep firing 30-06 210 grain bullets at point blank range into an MJ12 Commando's head and have him turn around and nail you? Doesn't that piss you off? Doesn't that just make you want to slam your fist into a halloween pumpkin on some rich bastard's property?
OR...do you want the option of being able to fine hone your skills at the firing range at THEN possibly plaster a commando's brains all over the asphalt at three hundred yards?
Easy choice if you ask me.

If I wanted a hunting sim I'd play a hunting sim, don't you think?

Amorpheus, either you don't know how to read, or you spend too much time partaking bad Columbian agriculture. The idea I mentioned regarding sighting in the weapons in the field or on the firing range takes place WITHIN a hunting sim and COULD be applied to Deus Ex's gameplay - I didn't imply at any point that Deus Ex II's commandos should be sporting 14 point racks. Get a brain, you'll enjoy using it. <IMG SRC="devil.gif" border="0">

Keep in mind that the weapons in DX aren't real ones, and most don't even have sights that could be adjusted (actually, the only one I can think of is the sniper rifle). I admit, sighting weapons would be a nice touch. But it wouldn't be useable in firefights and if it bypasses the weapon skill it would make it too easy. So it could only be a visual effect. And you're an augmented agent, why bother with sighting if you can aim just as well without?

?!? JC has augumentations allowing him to aim?!? Since when? Must have been a glitch...
