DX is a great game. Tops on my list, but there are some issues that have to be resolved. One of the most glaring ones in my eyes is the hacking in DX. All you really ever needed was Trained Computers and you'd be set. Mind you, you can't hack turrets but those can be taken out easily (I mean, I plaed a melee JC on Realistic and can take out turrets with the DTS!). All you have to do is walk up to a computer, right-click, hit alt-h, click camera 1, alt-d, camera 2 and so on. They should at least implement some sort of failure in hacking and maybe even a minimum Computer skill requirement similar to SS2.
Another problem is the lack of vendors which sell more than three different items. Like how about an arms dealer that you can visit regularly and be able to buy (and possibly sell) a wide range of items. Sure, Smuggler was cool and the Mechanics and Dealers you meet along the way are cool. But what they really need is a way you can specialize your character. Why bother having 100 rounds of 10mm, 30.06 and Sabot Shells when you are a heavy weapons specialist? It would be great if you can sell them and purchase your primary ammo. Of course, you'd have to make ammo a bit scarcer than it was. Also, I love all the demolition weapons...mmm...Scramble Grenades...wish I could get more of those.
Just a thought for DX2 or whatever it'll be called.

that's a great idea (about the ammo). i'd like to be able to buy & sell ammo more places, too. i hauled tons of it around that i never used. kept wishing i could visit Smuggler or the compound and trade in or find new stuff.
oh. i didn't mean that to sound like i thought your hacking idea was bad. (i'm old. i get confused.) i just didn't realize that you could hack without minimum skills because i always chose those minimums. i'l have to try without next time and see what happens.

All you need to hack is one level in computers and you can shut off any security camera you can access. You can also get at any ATM you want (though I think skill level determines the amount of credits you get).

I wish more hacking options were available - such as accessing in-game level maps, bits of information in other people's accounts as to where secret high tech goodies could be found, permanently lock some doors behind you so guards wouldn't be able to come and attack you, release toxic gas (a la Versalife), seriously mess up computer systems so explosions would be imminent within a certain time frame, and etc. I think not needing huge amounts of hacking skills for those who don't have these skills is great. But for those of us who are comfortable with various underground programs and code this additional option of winning levels should be there.

The hacking could be SS2 orientated. But in SS2, you just arbitrarily clicked buttons and if you were lucky, you did it.
If possible, hacking could be a skill where (unlike eg shooting), the player himself is the person learning. If you'd have to learn what to type in a login in order to crack the computer, you'd be way deeper involved (like a boot mode back door thing).

I had an idea to add a bit of player skill to hacking. You know all those numbers and characters that appear in the hacking meter thing. Well how about you made it so that a pattern was repeated quite a lot in it and you had to identify and type in that pattern to achieve a hack (you would call the sequence a root port number or something). Better skill levels give you more time to do that.

Also, I noticed again on my third or fourth time through that hacking takes way too little time. Even on Trained, hcking time was 10 seconds I think. It's way too simple to get into a computer which makes hacking part of almost every character I make. It'd be cool if you could make a true hacker. Make hacking more costly in time and possibly bioenergy or something, but make the rewards huge like being able to control turrets on your own, reprograming mechs (on more occasion), or having a whole smack of special options (releasing gas like in Versalife is cool).

complete shops for equipment would be good.<br />Better hacking is also important. I like the pattern idea, maybe skill level could determine the complexity of the pattern as well as time?

Hmm. I partially disagree. I feel that hacking wasn't a big enough part of the game to make very complicated. Although it was VERY valuable. But did anyone else notice the OTHER ways to get around security? For example, maxed rifle skill and the sniper rifle could destroy a camera. As could any explosive weapon at any skill level. Or you could just sneak around. What I did notice was that there was no reason to max your hacking skill. All it did was give you more credits at ATMs, and, as mentioned, the merchants were of little use. I personally never bought anything but weapon mods and scramble grenades. I wasn't too dissapointed in not being able to sell things. Just drop 'em. Now, if there were more things to buy, and without making it necessary to buy them...
