I did not know that. I had no idea in fact. I'm told they are endless smokers like the Greeks but didn't know they boozed so much.

Yeah, the statistics were something crazy like 2 or 3-fold consumption rate per year over the US. Japanese women have a higher annual consumption than US men.
Last year Suntory bought Jim Beam and people in the US freaked. But I was thinking, honestly, if it turned on a drinking contest, Japan wins hands down by a landslide, and to the victors go the spoils.

I've never been a regular drinker, I just go overboard on nights out - rarely if ever drink at home. I gave up because I had fatty liver disease, which tends to make the liver less resilient to putting up with my social habits.

Never gotten drunk in my life.
At most a bit tipsy.
Most of my friends are nervous of me getting drunk. Derp.
You can find me having a drink a few days a week, but usually nothing more than 3. Keeping it very light.

Well after counselling I realized I have a serious addiction personality problem, I cant just "have a few drinks", then stop. Its either all or nothing for me, so after a serious look at myself it has to be nothing.
That sucks, Pig. I've never had that issue you describe but I can recall from experience of my rare wild drunken nights a similar feeling kicking in when you're past the point of no return. Thankfully I've not had that many of those.
Try your best, mate.

Cheers man, luckily I have good support from family and friends, a lot easier than being on your own.

Good luck. The trial will be worth it.

Day 8 of Dry July... going ok. The first weekend was tough but once I managed to get over the Friday & Saturday night hump, it all became easier.
In fact, because I'm kind of insane, I decided to set myself another challenge and cooked a casserole with red wine in the recipe.
I've realised that cooking with wine is probably my chief trigger for alcohol consumption and I enjoy having a glass of white or red whilst cooking as part of the whole experience... so to do that and not be phased by not partaking, I'm counting that as a significant win.
I had 1 lapse due to a business dinner catch up with colleagues who I haven't seen for 3 months, but managed to hold strong the other night that I was in Sydney... the good news is that even though I lapsed, I raised $100 for cancer ($50 golden ticket & $50 penalty I paid myself).
If anyone feels like contributing to the cause: (
