No ETA. But the mod's been in development for a good 3-4 years now and "2009" in general sounds promising seeing how we've more-or-less got through over half of it.

As long as we're talking, I have a question too: is Episode 2 much more demanding, graphically, than Ep. 1? I was thinking about picking it up from the sale, mostly so that I could play some of these mods you guys recommend. But if the game itself wouldn't work very well (on a Core 2 Duo 2.10gHz, Geforce 8600Mgt and 3GB of ram) then I won't bother. I can usually get away with high detail settings on HL2/Ep.1, with minimal anti-aliasing.

It is, but only just. Basically, if you can run HL2 and Ep.1 at full settings, you're about set up for Ep. 2. I played through it the first time on my old 7900GT, and all I had to do was knock AA off to keep it at smooth 45+ FPS at all times.

Yeah, all of the Source 2007 (Orange Box) build games should be perfectly playable on a C2D 2.0GHz, 8600GT @ 1440x900. You might want to only use 2xAA, knock off the bloom and not use the "reflect all" option.

I would say as long as your card's compatible with an up to date Direct X, you should be fine. My GeForce 3 ran HL2 and Ep 1 very nicely, but I couldn't play any of the new Orange Box stuff until I upgraded.

Yeah, I'd advise against getting HLS as well. The only thing it does is butcher a perfectly good retro fps with half-assed "improvements"... Stick to the original (and call me elitist, but I'm against the HD pack that came with Blue Shift as well)
Heh, and there I was thinking I was the only one who's never touched the HD Pack! :cheeky: I've also never been interested in HL: Source for basically the same reasons. Whenever I boot up old games for another playthrough, regardless of how outdated the graphics may be, it just gives me that "nostalgic" feeling that I love. Sure graphics technology improves over the years, but if we didn't have any problem with HL1's graphics when it came out, why fix what was never broken?

That's totally fine for me (I don't really have a problem playing at 1280x800, even). Thanks!

Black Mesa...holy crap! I hadn't heard about it before either...it looks sweet!
Of course, I don't have any Source games yet... :erg:

The big boss fight at the end got seriously chunky for me, but then I'm running a CPU that hasn't been upgraded since 2003, even if the video card is relatively new. So all things considered I couldn't complain.
