My mod is looking for voice actors, and I know that a lot of you guys are into games (duh) and maybe are into voice acting. The casting call is available (
http://www.hlssmod.com/showthread.php?t=435) here.

Games? What are they?

I'm impressed. Good concept art. What do you guys use for 3D modelling?
Just curious, have you guys done any game development? I was wondering if you're familiar with (
http://www.ogre3d.org/) Ogre, (
http://www.panda3d.org/) Panda3D or (
http://www.jmonkeyengine.com/) jMonkeyEngine. If you are, I'd be very interested in hearing opinions and seeing projects you've done.
I've studied Panda3D and jMonkeyEngine in the past. They've proven to be surprisingly powerful. So far I like their flexibility, especially Panda3D's. You can program it using either C++ or Python (good for rapid prototyping and scripting game logic). The 10% of code that runs 90% of the time is hard-coded in C++, so performance is kept high.
jMonkeyEngine is an OpenGL engine written in Java. It has a scene editing tool called MonkeyWorld3D that makes the engine a bit more accessible for game content artists. Some people seem to have concerns about Java not being fast enough for 3D game programming, but Java's JIT compiler does a pretty good job, actually. I was prejudiced towards all engines written in Java, until I decided to try this one out.
Not much to say about Ogre. It's basically just a SceneGraph without much extra functionality. Haven't used it that much, but I do know that it's open source and it's being used in a wide variety of projects, including commercial ones.
Well, good luck with your mod! :)

This is your mod? Now I'm really interested. Are you guys still taking story ideas?

...and I never realised that I could sound so hammy. It was so bad, I think my computer nearly restarted itself.
Wow. It's a good thing I never tried for any school plays. Sorry guv, I'd've loved to, but my Russian scientist sounded more like a drunk Irishman. Oh well. Maybe you could ask 242 to try that part, he'd be far more authentic. :D

XSI and 3ds max are the main tools, I believe.
The other stuff you said went directly over my head. Most of us aren't that far advanced with things. I've taken some design classes myself, but I was always more into the writing and art side than programming.

haha yes, this is mine.
We've got two episode arcs in the works at the moment, each of which will lend themselves to about 3 episodes each. Someone has been talking to us about another completely separate episode, which is an idea that we're entertaining for the moment.
I get a disgusting amount of fanfiction and story ideas. While I'd love to be able to take each of them and make a mod of it, the team really isn't that big (so of course I'm taking my own ideas first). For instance, we've been struggling with character models for a very long time.
If you want to talk some things over, I'd love to, but there's not a lot I can really promise.

lol, what's your normal accent? There are some more british/american accents that you could give a shot to. :p

Absolutely understandable. I'll just PM you an idea AFiH and I have been tossing around for almost a year- I just have to find my notes. Up to you to decide what to do with it- but I've been wanting to submit it for some time (but am utterly lazy.)

Damn, I wanted to have a go at voicing the Brits but my mic is dead and so is my computer with the shiny sound card. :(
Scots Taffer on 25/9/2008 at 23:41
If I can get a hold of a mic I'll try one or two of those.
DaBeast on 26/9/2008 at 01:14
I'll wait and see if there's a creative dispute that tears the project apart....
