Got me a laptop, not the fastest but Half-life should run fine, currently trying to get steam to update itselve, is in some weird loop, can't believe it's still as shit as it was years ago. Why don't they simply make something that works?
enfin, what are the good mods to install, something like updated models available? Other stuff that enhance the graphics? And a few good multiplayer mods would be great, I like tactical games a la rogue spear.

Blue Shift came with a free to download texture upgrade pack. Get it.
As for mods, The Specialists is a good one that is basically an action film (it's like the Matrix with more guns). They Hunger is a singleplayer zombie game.
But you should really get HL2. That's where the modders have gone. And besides, with the awesome optimization of the Source engine it can run on any computer.

Doubt Half-life 2 will run, got only 1.6 mhz and 512 MB. Blue shift is included, got Half-life, opposing forces, blue shift and team fortress (for some reason not counterstrike?).
gah, 30%, back to 0%, they could have improved the atrocity that is steam, why force someone to use something that doesn't work
ah, crashed again

Wow, you must be horribly unlucky or else I'm sickeningly fortunate, I haven't had any real problems with Steam at all.

Well it is excactly the way I remember it, an unstable piece of shit that leeches your memory and drains your bandwich. Got a 2mbs connection and I go from 1.2mbs to 1.8 kbs in 10 seconds.
Steam alright, if you see any steam hovering over holland that would be me being extremily frustrated.
Any way around it, just want to play opposing forces and Blue shift, supposed to be awesome.

got STEAM at HL2's launch, no problems for me either. I would check your connection and/or possibly reinstall STEAM. Also, check the official (
http://www.steampowered.com) STEAM boards as well.

I finished HL2 on a desktop P4 1.6 GHz, 512 RAM with Radeon 9200. It ran fine on medium settings.

Being a laptop, it probably has a shitty integrated card like mine.

Yay complete death, even uninstalling the damn thing doesn't work. See this is why I gave up on pc gaming, what was I thinking buying a valve product in the first place, it isn't like I don't have any experience with the beta shit releasing policy of these vultures.
Disgusting.

The pre-load for half-life 2: Episode Two started on wednesday 10:00am pacific time, so the steam server's are likely to be overloaded, and giving preference to those that pre-ordered the 2nd episode. Which is probably the reason you are having problems with steam.
Plus there's a known faulty steam server in germany thats been causing network problems with steam.
