Actually planning on getting and playing this one with some friends from hometown. I was pleasantly surprised by the multiplayer Demo ("beta"). Still basically the same game, but the gameplay has somewhat less of a "nerfgun" feel to it. I thought it was a subtle yet substantial improvement on Halo 3.

you know what I meant.
Actually I thought you were talking about them moving forward with the story into new and exciting areas instead of rehashing the same story over and over and squeezing as much capital gain out of their IP as they possibly can.

What I never understood was the way Bungie went about telling the story in the series. Through small fragments of conversations and readables through the games as well as the tie-in books and comics, it's clear Bungie have crafted a fairly complex and interesting (if not at all original) backstory for the universe. Multiple alien races, planets, political organizations, legend and history.
But instead of actually telling a decent story with all this, the games manage to turn the whole thing into a boring world filled with flat, underdeveloped and boring characters who run around doing very boring things.

Perhaps the people who wrote the tie-in materials are better writers and storytellers than Bungie?

No doubt.
It always just boggled my mind that such a good backdrop was created for this conflict, and Bungie always found someway to make it boring as hell in the actual games. It was almost like an art by the end of Halo 3.

Another Halo, another 9. whatever from IGN, and they're still trying to convince me the series = a great single player experience.
Thanks for the sales pitch/"review," but I learned my lesson after Halo 2.

I've tried a couple times to get into Halo 3, but I always quit before the second level. In the Halo games the weapons never have enough weight, and the enemies don't react enough to make shooting them satisfying. Maybe if I just play it really loud...

Thats part of the reason I like Reach better than the previous games. The energy weapons still feel like a nerf gun, but overall the game is a good bit more "physical" than the previous entries into the series. Object and ragdoll physics, in particular, have been noticeably improved and there's much less of a "covered in snot" look to everything.

The IGN review made me scratch my head a few times.
Quote:
Noble 6 is the rookie member of Noble Team, a squad of Spartans stationed on Reach. You'll get to know each of the other team members through the course of Halo: Reach as you work with them to complete various missions, but the action always follows Noble 6's adventure.
So in other words it's as cliche as it could possibly be: You're the rookie with a squad of badass super soldiers.
Quote:
Though past Halo games were filled with repetitive landscapes and circuitous, difficult to follow plots, Halo: Reach does not suffer from these problems.
The fuck? Difficult to follow plot?
Quote:
The best new addition? Armor abilities. These are an evolution of the equipment found in Halo 3 and drastically change the way you play in their updated form. These temporary but reusable extra abilities add things like sprinting, jet packs, and invincible armor to the franchise for the first time.
It's basically just like the item pickups in Halo 3, or the camo or overshields of the other games.
I'm not jumping on the Halo hate bandwagon but I wasn't impressed with Halo 3 or ODST, and the reviews are the same predictable hype-train bullshit. It would be nice if I could find a review that at least seemed somewhat objective.
