It's called padding.
They don't have enough material to make a good game of decent length, so they copy and paste what they do have, in the process completely undermining the material's quality.
Yup.

Wait, what?
I seem to remember there being a little level in the first game called "The Library".
I was referring to the COMBAT against the flood. Not necessarily the levels but the base traits of the enemy. In Halo 1 it was fantastic, fucking scary, and a challenge as the way they absorbed damage was much different from what you were used to with other enemy types. I remember scrambling around for that shotgun and the great feeling you got when you finally got your hands on it after getting your ass kicked, it was like finding a lantern in a dark cave.
In Halo 3, you can headshot them easily, take them out with pretty much as much ease as any other enemy, and YOU CAN MELEE THEM APART, pretty much ruining any of the tension the first game had built.
That said, though I LOVED the Library, despite EVERYBODY disagreeing with me. Sure the visuals were eeeeeh but the gameplay in it was superb and remained a challenge all the way thru. It was pretty hard to get lost, too, despite several people complaining about that (if you see guys you just killed you're going the wrong way).
The library level in Halo 2 was much shittier.

To each his own, I guess. To me fighting the Flood felt like a protracted session of Whack-A-Mole, except the moles could hurt you and some of the moles would explode into a bunch of even-more-annoying little moles.
I didn't find them that scary either, as I remember them looking remarkably like animated popcorn.

Good Lord. It seems Bungie does have talent of a sort then.

(

That ad was linked on the dashboard when I fired up my 360 just now, I must say that I had a good laugh.

I'm surprised no one (read: Halo fans) posted about that ad before: I'm not a fan and I think it's awesome. If a Halo movie looked like that I'd go see it.
ah, yes; page 3.:nono:

You mean like "Remember the dopefish" in Quake? Developers referencing their other titles in games? What other games has that been done in?
MorbusG on 22/9/2009 at 16:06
I was thinking "Remember Citadel" and its derivates. Yeah, maybe not that overused but it's starting to stick out. "Remember milk" written on a wall with blood would be refreshing.
