I would posit that they are all derivative of 'Remember the Alamo', which has kinda been around for a while.

~0:41 that "Remember xxx" is getting a bit old.
In what way? I can't think of a single other game example off-hand.

I picked this up midnight on Monday. Not that I'm a huge fan of Halo, I really liked Halo 1, I never -ever- played Halo 2, I loved Halo 3. Sure, the story sucked and Master Chief has become more annoying and flat every sequel, but the gameplay has been thoroughly enjoyable every game. And the multiplayer, even more so.
I think Halo ODST is great.
First of all, the characters. They're human, they have personalities, they aren't flat stereotypes of superheros like Master Chief. They have their own stories going on and they aren't made out of titanium. Leaps and bounds above the actual Halo series. Also, you have health. When your shields deplete, it starts to take down your health, and you die. You can't take a billion hits like Halo, you have to take a lot of cover, play tactically, and make sure you don't get yourself into a shitstorm.
The story thusfar is a lot of fun. The covenant and their ilk are all very fun enemies to play against and fighting them as a regular human soldier is endlessly entertaining. The firefight mode is a lot of fun, more fun than the mode they copied (sorry GoW). I can easily spend all night playing it with some friends.
Sure, the price is too high, this would have been a great deal as a $15 DLC. Instead, they slapped in a second CD that contains all the Halo maps and then charged $60 for it, which is stupid if you already paid for the halo maps. Their should be an alt version that is only the campaign and firefight mode for $15 as DLC for those who already have Halo and all the map packs, but Microsoft am i rite.
Regardless, there were 50 people in line waiting for this overpriced DLC.
Still, it gets thumbs up from me.

Kind of like the first Halo?
Having played it, it feels almost exactly the same as Halo 3. You can still go toe-to-toe with most of the enemies, and about the biggest difference is the HUD. You've even still got the regenerating shields mechanic. Also, it's a short campaign. Very short. 4-5 hours, tops.
I agree that it would have been great as a $15 DLC for people with Halo 3, but if you've already got Halo 3 then it is a waste of cash.

Good write-up Alchy! :D
I wasn't crazy about Halo 3 though so I won't be getting this.

You actually stood in line at midnight to buy a game, let alone a Halo title? WTF? Halo is indeed serious business.

People who're willing to pay for
multiplayer map packs deserve to be ripped off, TBH. The concept of premium (non-MMO) MP content is entirely detrimental to a game's playerbase/community and it shouldn't be supported.

No. You have a shield that depletes and then when its gone, it starts to do permanent damage to your actual health, which is only restored with healing items. Halo assumed that once your shield depleted you were dead, and that if your shield regenerated, you were superman again.
Correct me if I'm wrong?
Anyway, No, I didn't stand in line. I saw that line and drove back home. Then 15 minutes later I went back and the line was gone. They were closing up, I was the last one to get it. I'm not a fanatic, I just wanted something new to play. =/

Also, you can't possibly playing on any of the hard settings, because this isn't true. I get my ass handed to me by ONE hunter if I get too close. I feel much more fragile in this game than Halo 3. Play harder?

Actually, if memory serves, OSDT -is- like Halo 1. You have a shield (stamina in this case, methinks), once it's depleted you can die easily, so you need to let it regenerate, just like in Halo (and in Legendary difficulty you were never Superman, just a cyborg with a slim-chance, great times).
OSDT is back to basics with a few new tricks and level design :)
Mind you, so far, it's been pretty fun and interesting what I've played :D
Now that I think about it, you got a 360 again, eh Alch?
Tag, plz :)
So we can Firefight later on!
