Hammerite Order vs. the Catholic Church - by Dead Eye

I for one am disappointed that this has been raise and it just indeed goes to show a lot of what thiefguy122313 was saying. I AM a Catholic and NEVER have I had the inclination that "My hammer shall Smite thee" (well, when I say never, I mean the religious self importance that when someone pisses me of or defiles my faith I should crush the unbeliever!. Of course I sometimes think “you deserve a right ass kicking you monkey boy” when I get pissed off but this sadly is my human nature and I can only pray for forgiveness - or in my “easy” catholic life go to confession :P ) as this goes AGAINST the catholic church teaching totally!
I hope I don't box off my religious life as thiefguy122313 put it, but sadly I know that some people who call themselves Christians fail to understand the true significance of this.
Thief is a game and I would like to think that while Looking Glass may have been drawing on the "anti religious" perception of organised religions, they designers recognise that this is could not be the case from anyone who claims to believe in a loving god especially anyone who claims to follow Jesus as Catholics do! (and, yes I recognise the wrong the church has done in the past, this is sometimes greatly exaggerated but still inexcusable and what can I say but hey we are all human…. And at least I can pray things will get better!)
Dead Eye if you believe this to be what the Catholic church is like, please read its catechism and talk to its ordinary members (practising one’s preferably (and that doesn’t mean just showing up at mass reluctantly ever Sunday, all thought I still believe that this is better than nothing (supposing they listen and think about what they are hearing of course…..) and its priests.

"that the mountains will crumble filling in the valleys and all paths will be made straight" - is it?
Also I believe that it is suppose to be a metaphor, - along this the ones about grapes vines, branches of trees, mountains being the feet of Him , us being seeds - so that parallel between the Catholic church and hammers is well..... not a parallel

There are some similarities between Hammerites and Catholics, but on the whole they are very different
The Catholic Church is the most successful political organisation in our planet's history; compare and contrast with the Hammerite Order, which, by the time of the Metal Age, is in serious decline
Also, the Hammerites are less violent ;)

While it would be wrong to see the Hammerites as an allegorical representation of the Catholic church IMO, I'd say that the way they're presented is a lot closer to the CC (or to the Christian church in general) than for instance to Buddhist, Hindu or Muslim faith. (Can't really say about Judaism, since I know too little about their traditions and culture.)
At least when it comes to the Hammerites' language, appearance, scriptures etc., their style was based on Medieval/Renaissance Christian traditions, conventions and culture - or perhaps rather on a somewhat vague idea of (late Medieval) Christian fundamentalism.
As far as Christian values and ideas are concerned, they're not really an influence on Thief or the Hammerites. The spiritual world, as seen by the Hammer blokes, seems to be fairly clearly Manichean. None of that forgiveness & love stuff that Christ preached. Then again, you don't really find much of that in much of Medieval Christianity either. In that sense, the Hammers could almost be seen as a sort of parody of the Catholic church that created the Inquisition, that instigated the Crusades etc.
All of this is very much IMO, of course.

Sorry for re-incarnating this thread, but I couldn't help but express my very few opinions.

Actually the Mechanists would be Lutherans ;). *gets beaten to a bloody pulp* Actually, I found a small connection between Joan of Arc and Karras. But hey, that's just me. But I do agree that Thief IS A GAME and has no basis of reality. Well, maybe the whole "thief" and "stealing" part, but other than that, nothing.
Okay, I'll shuddup now. No more discussion of this...
