Hammers vs. Pagans - by Kovitlac

There might have been a topic like this awhile back but I didn't feel like searching through ump-teen pages of history. I did look back a little ways, though.
Anyway, so who do you prefer: Hammerites or Pagans? I prefer the Hammerites for these reasons:
1) They're tons easier for me to make friends with (I find the beetles all over the place, but those Pagan symbols are easier for me to miss. I have yet to ever be allied with the Pagans).
2) Giant hammers are cool.
3) I hate zombies with a passion and since the Pagans are the ones to raise from from the dead...well, I resent them a bit.
4) 'thiefsie' amd 'bes' can really get to you after a while (than again, I'm sure 'thee' and 'thou' can too, so it's all a matter of preferance).
5) I need to visit Fort Ironwood a lot and being friends with the Hammers really helps me in that aspect.
That's about it for now. What about you?

I haven't played TDS the whole way through, but from what I remember of playing it, I made a concerted effort to kill every pagan I could find, because I could not STAND their "be's" and "thiefsies", either, as you say. I can tolerate the Hammers' archaic speech idiosyncrasies much more than Pagan-speak, except when it's stiff and over-acted, as I thought the Mechanists did in T2.
I like the Hammers more.
Also, when in TDS is it proven that the pagans are responsible for all these undead? If that's true, then the Pagans get bonus points in my book. :thumb:

I guess I should have put that information in a spoiler. But it's not like it reveals any of the real plot.
When you're inside Fort Ironwood in Old Quarter you find out that the Pagans are responsible for raising the dead, and that the Hammerites are trying to bury someone in the Ironwood cemetery. However they can't, because of the linguring zombies.
The Hammers are like the Catholic church of middle-age Europe: moody bunch, quick to outrage, Draconian in their methods and boasting their own army, you DON'T want to get on their bad side. It still depends on the situation though...for strictly alliances, then I take the Hammers over the Pagans for basically the same reasons you mentioned. Plus, Hammers seem to have a lot more goodies to pilfer :p I'd stick with them, as long as they don't start forcing me to attend services.

lol! Same deal here;)
I was also hoping that when I got to the clocktower, the Hammerites would still be allied with me. So I decided to test the idea. At the first yell of 'Hey, you!' I figured 'oops, guess not'.
You're right about the Pagans, too - they really don't seem to have much where loot is concerned. It all makes sense considering their status and the status of the hammerites.

I'm trying to ally myself with the Pagans because I find them harder to deal with as enemies than the Hammers - every time I so much as breathe in a Pagan stronghold, I end up with an arrow in my back. The Hammers, by comparison, seem quite easy to avoid.

Hmm, the Pagans do have a woodsie lord who takes matters into his own hands and gets personally involved every once in a while unlike some other deities *cough Builder *ahem, so you probably wouldn't want to piss them off either. But that aside, Pagans seem to lack bona fide power and authority, much like the rebels to the Hammer "Empire" (yes those treebeasts are big and scary but wood, living or not, is still no match for fire and metal, and if there are two things the Hammers adore, it's fire and metal). Pagans in general tend to be less angry and vengeful than the boys in red so it figures to be much easier to patch things up should one cross them the wrong way.

I like the pagans :)
1. They're nature lovers
2. I like the way they talk (I like how the hammers talk too tho)
3. I lost respect for Hammerites a bit when reading the prisoner lists in Cragscleft prison
4. I don't think they USUALLY like zombies, but I could be wrong.
5. They have a little less of the "holier than thou" attitude.

In TMA I felt more simpaty for the pagans, especially in Trail of blood when visiting the pagan village. The little pagan girl makes me feel sad :(
But in TDS I prefer the hammers, I not sure why, maybe because of their buildings and love for the furnaces, gears, etc, or maybe because they hate undead, just as me :sly:

Actually, I'm always allied with both of them. So when the wars are going on in the streets later, both factions ignore me. And I can enter either territory on friendly terms...Some people seem to think that you can only pick one to side with, but I found out you can actually be 100% with both. :p
If I had to pick one I'd pick Pagan's because I fear them more. Although the trickster's a back-stabbing bastard.... Meh...He's dead anyway...
