I always feel a little bad about killing Pagans; maybe because they're so scrawny & malnourished (and illiterate). The Hammers seem more worthy foes to me. I mean, one Hammer can do more damage than 5-10 Pagans imo; those hammers are lethal!

I went through a phase of HATING pagans at one stage, probably because those ratmen in TDP were far too tough for me, and sneaking past them was pretty hard.

Now however, I've changed my mind. Still like the Hammers more, but as Skynet said; they were pretty mistreated by the mechanists in T2. Plus much of what they did was the Trickster's fault. I, for one, found the speech in TDS okay but a little over the top. In fact, as far as I remember, no pagans in the first two games said 'bes' before every verb. Some pagan phrases from TDS were okay though; I especially like[SPOILER] Leafer's quotes in the pagan tunnels, you know who I mean, the guy who guards the map.[/SPOILER]

Seriously, i cant @#!@#!! take it after a while and just start killing them.

Plus the Hammers have all those pithy slogans and quotes

I wonder what Benny would sound like as a Hammer...wrong thread for that I guess

In the scope of TDS... who cares really. Both the factions were poorly done. The Hammers weren't too bad... but Ion really did a shitty job with the pagans. For those of you who make fun of the way the pagans speak, go back to Thief 1 and watch the cutscene where the trickster betrays you. Listen to him speak, and make fun of *that*. It sounds really cool. Yeah, the TDS pagans got pissed on by Ion Storm there.

Really I prefer to ally with the pagans though... and that is simply so I can run through their territory as fast as possible to get away from their annoying speech. I really enjoy Hammer speech and heirarchy, so I want to take my time moving through their places.

I prefer to ally with the pagans *because* I prefer the Hammers.

However, ignoring TDS I always liked the pagans more.

Ally with em both...

Hammerites- ooo, easy way to evade enforcers, great help in old quarter and stone market. Oh, and lots of goodies such as holy water. Fort Ironwood is pretty desolate though.

Pagans-slight help in docks, great help in auldale. Docks base is desolate, Auldale is pretty big.

Being allied with both helps. I really don't think Garrett is a person who would really associate with the Hammerites. Ya know, too orderly. The pagans seem more his style. But, either way, Drept, which eventually leads into the Cradle etc makes me go for the hammerites, but at the same time the pagans are the underdogs, and their cause feels more...natural.

Through the series, I've always felt a little more sympathetic towards the pagans because for the most part, they weren't too hostile until TDS. Yeah, the whole Trickster thing was but I gave that up as his doing and not necessarily all of them or possibly them being bullied into it. Anyway, the Hammers run around smiting people while the Pagans steal.

I hate fanatics, especially arrogant fanatics with hammers that HURT.
And hammer's speech really bugs me, esp. when I'm trying to read it.

*I do ally with them, because having the city guard on my tail is enough for me. But that doesn't mean I can't kill a few on the special missions :devil:
(or in Thief1 - the original hammers are the ones that sparked my hatred anyway)
