Today I was fortunate that my city was having a big jazz festival this weekend. And I love jazz ... (I like to play jazz piano). It was a mixed bag at the festival, and I liked all of it.
Apparently it was the night for tributes ... we listened to one band playing Django gypsy jazz (I cut my teeth on the guitar learning Django tunes so they have a special place in my heart), then some Jobim sambas (absolutely lush), then another band playing some Thelonious Monk bop (raw and edgy). Then the main acts were some Fathead Newman smooth jazz (... as silk), Marcia Ball (barrel roll), and George Duke (funk and hard bop), who finally brought the house down. What a great time!
By the way: You can see a piece of my FM in the Chain Project. But just between us, I still have it around and may very well come back to it sometime.
