Went to the pub to say bye to an old friend. She's moving to Dubai with her daughter and husband in a few days. Then went to see my friends' band. Plenty of familiar faces. Too much whiskey.

Watched Man of Steel. Better than I remember -- somehow the glaring flaws, while still there, don't seem to be so big. And I've reconciled that this version of Clark is very different from the one I know from the comics, though they share some core values.

I am, generally, a grumpy old f**t but I do wish everyone here a very happy New Year (slightly late). I managed to fall asleep just as Big Ben was striking twelve so missed everything, which is fairly typical for me.

Went to J Sheekys in London for seafood dinner and then went to A Vintage New Years at South Bank, which I highly recommend.
We all went dressed in 20s style, me with a black dinner suit, white waistcoat and bowtie and two tone shoes, my gf with an actual 20s black velvet dress and a load of pearls. Our friends were in various 20s styles, but my fav was one guy dressed up like a gangster with piano braces, white tipped shoes and a hat. He should have brought a toy tommy gun.
The 1st floor hall had a brass band playing 20s to 40s music and there were three dance lesson sessions - The Charleston, Foxtrot and Lambeth Walk.
The other floors had 50s, 60s, 70s to 80s cheese and soul classics, respectively.
The doors opened at close to midnight so we could all go out into the balconies and watch the London NY fireworks.
I think we'll be going again next year.
