Hi everyone.
I've been having problems with Deadly Shadows since I installed my new sound card, a Soundblaster X-Fi Elite Pro. When I enable hardware mixing all the sound disappears and the EAX options don't even become available.
I'm kind of at a loss here, I did a search but couldn't find anyone with similar problems using this card. I've seen people posting that they're using the Fatal1ty version, so I'm guessing there must be a way to get it to work with this line of cards.
Any help would be much appreciated, since I just spent £200 on a card that now doesn't even seem to fulfill its purpose.
Thanks in advance!

Can anyone help me out with this? If anyone has it working with an X-Fi soundcard I could really use the assistance!
Here's my spec's:
AMD 3000XP+
1GB Ram
Leadtek Geforce 6800GT
Creative Soundblaster X-Fi Elite Pro
I'm running a clean install of Thief III. I've tried all posible combinations of settings (Entertainment, Audio Creation and Gaming mode) and enabled/disabled all the different options (EAX, CMSS-3D, etc.). Nothing seems to work though. Everytime I click the "Audio Hardware Mixing" box the audio dies, and the other options don't become available.
I've tried out Doom 3 and the EAX effects work fine with that, so it can't be the card itself.
Any help at all would be appreciated! Thanks again!

All standard stuff, but have you got the latest drivers for the card and your motherboard? Complete card/driver uninstall and reinstall? Change the slot it's installed in? Reinstall DirectX? Update motherboard BIOS? Try it in another PC? Check the Creative support forum, and if all else fails log a support call with them.

Hi
Can you give us more detailed specs, include your motherboard make and bios revision. Also include all driver versions.
Then well be in a better position to help you.

Well, I bought a SoundBlaster X-Fi Xtreme Music just a week ago and it works fine with Thief 3 (in fact great. Completely changes the game). All I did was plug it in, install the latest drivers, and tell Windows to use the X-Fi for sound. I'm not sure what your problem could be because my card worked fine, but do you have an onboard sound card? Maybe you can try disabling that in the bios because it might be conflicting with the SoundBlaster.

Do you get any errors if you run dxdiag's sound tests? In particular, can you play sounds from a hardware buffer?

The links above refer to first revision of X-Fi Xterem Music on some nForce4 boards with early bioses. This has been sorted out since then. nForce4 problems had nothing to do with Thief anyway - you would not be able to load Windows at all:cheeky: Did you disable onboard sound in Bios?

So, it sounds like you "can" run the game with sound. (?) If so, it could be a driver conflict that the game code has with your cards drivers.

This suggestion was originally for F.E.A.R sound issues. It may work for some other games too.
Shutdown a process called "CTHELPER.EXE" and then launch the game to see if it helps.
