4096 x 4096 is the new limit for texture sizes. Is anyone using a texture that big? And I don't just mean for testing, but as a genuine part of your mission.
Screenshots would be welcome, even if you're "only" using 2048 or something low-res like 1024.

In TDM even we don't go above 2048*2048, all you need is a high quality original and even at 1024*1024 it will look good.

For my contest mission, I started to use all 1024x1024 textures, but then I decided it was crazy because they were all .png files and the file size would be huge. Plus I found textures that size weren't even needed in most cases. I could see how they'd be useful on larger wall spaces though or for really fine detail.

I used 2048x2048 for my cavern walls because of the large open spaces. I didn't want an obvious repeating pattern to distract from the visual impact of the caverns. The waterfall is about 230 units away.

Some of the textures in the EP2.0 demo are 1024x1024.

Most of my textures have a resolution of 2048 x 1024 or 2048 x 2048. (.png files)
But even with newdark there are limits here! When I use too many textures with a resolution like that...thief.exe crashes or the mission won´t load!
I would argue that all textures that have more than 2048 pixel...make no sense!
- The files are too big
- No one takes advantage of higher resolutions because most players use a lower resolution to play ....
- Or they have a slow pc...
here is a example:
The mission "the sword"... this mission has so many textures ... with my current texture resolutions this mission is unplayable .... because it crashes!
So i have to look how i can handle this problem :p
I don´t use 4096 x 4096!
EDIT:
Look at this! :cheeky:

Is that after a Textures > Compress all?!? :wot:
I believe that when you compress your texture list, all the textures not actually used on brushes get unloaded, freeing the process memory dedicated to them ...
