Has ever thought... (Thief and Nintendo) - by ThreeEyes

how awesome it would be if there was a thief game on the nintendo ds? Maybe a conversion, but also with new features. Such as using the stylus to control a variety of garretts actions. Imagine using it to pick a lock, blackjack, draw a bow and arrow someone or even perhaps climbing a rope.
Graphically I think the DS would be able to deliver an experience similar to perhaps Thief 2. Quake has been ported over to the NDS, and id software has a nice little engine in orcs & elves which includes coloured lighting and transparencies.

I did think about this, when the DS was new! I thought about how various moves could be replicated with mostly the stylus. I think it could work, but it might take some bold designing to be something special.

Don't sound like a half bad idea. Maybe not a Thief game, but a Thiefish game would be nice. Of course, I'd love to see a port for Thief written for the x360. Shouldn't be too terribly difficult. :cheeky:

I know that Dreamcast was pretty open to haxxoring, maybe it could run Thief? Also original Xbox could be hacked pretty good, with Linux and everything, maybe Thief could possibly be forced to work there somehow.
It's a non-issue to me because if there is a campaign or mission pack that I really want to enjoy I can already play it on my HDTV with a 360 controller :) I thoroughly enjoyed T2X this way, and Seven Sisters

I expect that Thief 4 will be on the 360, and there was Thief Deadly Shadows on the original xbox. I'm talking something thief as an interactive game in a way the other games weren't. The other console that would be interesting is perhaps the Wii, using the remote to swing like a blackjack, and using the remote and nunchuck in a bow and arrow like fashion. But I digress, the NDS is the most suitable for homebrew right now.

Blackjacking with the wiimote would be fairly hilarious.

What? How? I'm not too up-and-up on NDS development, but the x360 has its own downloadable game development studio. Sure its XNA and all that happy shit, but its there, and it allows you to make games yourself for your x360, so homebrew is perfectly supported. :thumb:

Oh yes, this is true. I doubt that Thief would get a commercial release on the NDS so you'd have to do this as a homebrew style venture. And the DS is the perfect choice, it's an easier low level platform with a lot of potential. Besides, if you make a thief game on XNA then I doubt you'd be able to distribute it due to copyright issues.

No reason you couldn't make it "Thiefish," just put a lil line : "Inspired by LGS."
Those in the know will know, and those who are not, won't care. :thumb:
