Weird, I very much expected LarryG to be right (and at some point in the past I started avoiding putting things in solid too), but now that I try it, AIs, nor objects, actually don't seem to be falling through solid at all. Could that be a thing that only happened in Old Dark? With that said, though, there might be other reasons for not putting things in solid, but it's been almost 8 months now since I last touched DromEd, so I'm starting to forget things.
The following monolog message probably explains it:
"WARNING: object 4 is partially or completely out of world, physics deactivated"
Was that message also in Old Dark?
Edit:
With DromEd it's usually better to be safe than sorry, so I would still recommend not putting anything in solid (even if I cannot recall exactly why at the moment).

I'd say that if the NewDark console complains about it, it's something that is best avoided.
