In almost every other language than English there is a difference between verbs in singular and plural, that wouldn't be so ambiguos. :erg:
Yep, English is a gnarly beast, often ambiguous and downright confusing. But, I think that was meant as a joke, Beleg. ;) "You are not the boss of me!" is something school kids tell each other. (No insult intended there, GMD!)
Nox, have you played the demos? You can find them at (
http://www.thief-thecircle.com/media/main/) The Circle's Multimedia Page. My personal preference is still for the earlier games, but I do like T3. It is a thing that isn't easily explained. There are several hundred T2 FMs out there, so there's got to be something to it. I would certainly recommend playing T1 before T2.

Small levels with a lot of things in? Unfortunately there wasn't a lot of feedback when I asked about that the last time (and irrespective of TDS); and I'm still not sure which is better gameplay-wise, especially since the gameplay is focused on getting around guards in buildings. But that's off topic.
The levels in TDS were really not that much more populated with things than the originals were...although they probably seemed that way due to the smaller sizes. In any case, the sparseness in some areas of the original games were due to technological limitations, much like the limited sizes of TDS was tech limiting design. I would gladly take fewer 'things' over smaller 'levels' any day, if it gives me a sense of freedom and actually get lost within the level.

Isn't T1 just
too old though? I mean T2's graphics are very playable (from what I've seen), since the atmo is mostly from the sound anyways, but T1 is ancient!
Are there AI mods for T2 like there are for T3?

TDP/TMA - cons:
-AI is a bit simpler. They won´t notice important loot missing.
I swear they do :S At least on thief 2's first level in the dumbwaiter.
Anyway, you can get them to notice a lot more things, like doors being open and stuff, just the developers didn't activate this cos they thought it would make it too hard. I do not know whether you could just edit the ai to add these things in or whether you would have to actually edit the levels themselves also.
Anyway, the ultimate difficulty mods for both games should help. I don't think i've actually tried them yet, but the readme's of them sound good. Something for a second playthrough i would think:

The fidelity of the sound is the same in T1 and T2. I liked the T1 "soundtrack" better. As far as graphics...what's the big deal? It's a game. I mean pong can still be fun right?
Find a T1 T2 combo pack and get busy. :D (I imagine you could for 10-20 bucks).

Are there any issues playing Thief 1 and 2 on XP? Should I try to get the gold version instead or can I get the extra missions somewhere?
pavlovscat on 20/8/2008 at 18:37
Both play fine on XP. Get Gold if you can. There are more changes than just a few extra levels. Once you've played the OMs, get ready to try the FMs. The T2 FMs in particular can be spectacular looking. But, the T1 FMs often have excellent game play...they have to!

The original missions from Thief do have their *charm*, of course. The FM's are far superior game wise than the originals. The fans have taken that engine and exceeded what the developers probably intended for the game. Who cares really, the FM's rock! You'd be surprised. The majority of FM's are for Thief 2 the Metal age.
But get both, Thief gold, and Thief 2, the metal age.

I'm going to have to disagre with the cat. The original T1 was just a tighter package. Of the three extra levels only one (Song of the Caverns) was up to par. The pacing of the original game was better in my opinion as the extra levels just slowed things down too much. I say skip Thief Gold for now. If you really love the original after a play THEN try and dig up gold.

I have to chip in and say the graphics jump from T1 to T2 wasn't that noticeable. It's basically the same engine; TMA just has more ambitious (and larger) environments.
As for the OP, I'd definately reccomend you play TDP and TMA (in that order :P). Only you can decide whether it was worth it, though.
