madwolf - excellent mission! I have all 400-so FMs on my computer, most of them unplayed, and for whatever reason I downloaded yours today and finished it. I have been playing quite a few fan missions lately, and it was very refreshing to play a well-polished mission that was virtually bug free (I've been getting stuck/experiencing malfunctions in a lot of FMs lately).
I enjoyed it very much - scary, but not without a sense of humour! I loved the
whacking stick
, and the new AIs were a lot of fun.
If I were you, I would NOT change the location of the switches. Personally, I found them slightly difficult, but not impossible, and when I did find that last one I needed, it was very satisfying. Also -
the unlit torch switch was brilliant - placing it on the texture where it looks like there is a switch already - I looked it at so many times - first I thought there was a torch, then I thought it was just the texture, finally I took a third (and sideways look), and found it. Very clever and again, very satisfing.
At the very least, make the switches easier on normal but leave them as is on expert.
A few minor critiques - the
bats
should be a bit easier to kill
but not the ghosts - even the kitchen one - that was a fun challenge
. The
pumpking scarecrows
at the end were a GREAT touch, but I was hoping for a more splattery sound effect. If were actually to sample a
pumpkin being squashed
, that would just about make it the greatest thing ever, plus with some nice exploding effects (if you can't do the above, any good sound effect would do ;) ). Also, those two doors that are unfrobbable upstairs are not good, especially when there are lots of other doors that are unfrobbable, but switchable. Maybe just make them open up into walls with murals, ala Constantine. Actually, that would be perfect!
Finally, I found the loot to be a bit tricky. A small amount of loot hunting is okay, but I had to do a little more than I wanted.
Sorry for all the advice, but I really enjoyed the mission, and feel that with a few small tweaks it could be perfect. Hehe, I started playing it and my little sister walked in and sat down; she ended up watching me do the entire level. It really was a lot of fun. Thanks! :)

Aja: You're welcome. And I take onboard what you've said. I may tweak it at some point when I have the time. Though that's probably for next Halloween! :)
At the moment I have two things I'm concentrating on, firstly giving Skeletons in the Closet a much needed makeover, and secondly a seaside mission called tentatively "Turn of the Tide". A bit corny perhaps but I like it.

As old as this is, I have to do this. I have been trying to play this FM, and it is atmospheric and well done enough to keep me trying, but I have reached the front lobby area, and I keep getting killed by the bat. I have already searched this thread five times for solutions, and none of them are working for me. What do I do?
madwolf on 19/5/2006 at 21:52
How far are you into it? Have you just got into the Castle or are you trying to get out again? Either way I'm afraid you just have to run ahead of the bat. Sorry. I hate it too.
If you don't know already the bottles of beer you find around are health potions.
Hope this helps :erg:

Just gotten in, and thnx for the tip. I thought they were loot, lol.

Just keep ahead of that bat, you'll be ok
for now:ebil:
Very nice mission for the season or anytime really!
Figured it out. I needed to get into that passage on the fourth corridor.
The lever that opens it is in the corner of a room near the passage.
The room with the lever is in the corner where the third and fourth corridor meet.

The passage takes you to the kitchen key.
Now I'm done except I need about 45 more loot. Rats!
