I have read through the technical notes, but am not exactly sure what my problem is. I really need help. I want to find a way to install and run Thief Gold and Thief II permanently on this machine so I can put my old one out to pasture.
FIRST, I am running an Athlon 3200 64-bit processor
SECOND, I have a NVIDIA GeForce 7950 GT
Here is what happens: When I start Thief II, I can get to the start menu, select my difficulty, but when it tries to launch the game, it goes to a black screen and hangs up.
Would upgrading to Vista fix this problem?
I read and tried some suggestions from "Game issues with multiprocessors," but might have done something incorrectly. But I this is just a single processor, 64.
HELP. I am a Thief addict and must be able to play my FMs.

Do u get any error message when the black screen appears, any sound ?

Yes. The error message says "Direct3d device driver does not accurately report texture memory usage. Contact your 3d accelerator vendor for updated drivers."
Me thinks they don't update for thief II.
I do have sound.

Sounds like the problem, but looks like I'm in a pickle for a fix...
Well, at least I know where to go from here.
NVidia needs to correct this problem, but I doubt they will.
