After all this time has anyone ever figured out a hack or a mod or *any* way of turning head bobbing off? I love everything about this game except for the fact that it often makes me physically ill. I find 'running' all the time makes it a little better (smoother), but that makes a lot of noise. I know some think this is no big deal, but if you are affected by this it's really a problem. Thanks.

You're not the only, for sure, but there's no relief at this time.:erg:

You get sick from the head bob? Wow. God hates you. Playing one of the best games in the world making one physically ill? Yikes! It's just like the sexiest woman in the world with a chastity belt.
You have my sympathies.

What's head bobbing? Never realized there would be any bobbig... whatever it is.

The up and down motion of your view to simulate locomotion (walking, running, crawling). The bobbing of your head as you take steps, for instance. It happens in real life, but the brain's able to deal with it. In a virtual world, the simulation just makes people get motion sick.:eww:

Is it Thief 2 or Thief 3 you speak of?
For Thief 3 the Minimalist Project do the trick, AFAIK.

I don't know if there's a fix for T1/2 because the way the player dips seems to me to be acting like the bounding box for that frame of walking motion is changing shape. Try crouching and nudging forward. Eventually Garrett makes a huge dip.

Well, thanks! I only get ill at certain times, but I remember I had to eventually quit playing T1 when you went to some underground caves. The rolling up and down motion combined with the HBob'g was just too much. I think developers finally figured that out because later games almost always give you an option to turn it off, somehow. I don't think God hates me, though - at least he's letting me play it for now. And hey, I'm retired. What could be better than playing old Thief games and *not* working. And there's always a way to get around a chastity belt, IYKWIM... :D

I get really bad motion sickness in real life, when going on a train or being in a car (on whindy roads etc.) but I've never had a problem with it in the Thief games or any game for that matter (except maybe Alien versus Predator - but that's because your whole orientation is upside down).

Sorry to raise this thread from the dead, but I was playing Thief 2 for the first time in a LONG time, and I didn't make it through the training mission before I had to go lie down. Anyone who may have had a breakthrough, please let us know!
But in case there's no news on that front, here's what I've noticed in my thief playing.
1. I find that if I make sure that I'm not playing on an empty stomach, or playing just on junk food, I don't get ill as quickly or at all.
2. Also, the more often I play Thief 1 and 2, the less motion sick I get. I guess that makes sense. (For some reason, T3 doesn't bother me at all, and I don't need to use any mods to get rid of the head bobbing.)
3. Finally, if you're playing in the dark, turn some lights on. My eyes don't get as tired when I'm looking at a lit screen if I have a lamp on as well, and I think keeping your eyes from getting tired is a good way of staving off nausea.
Once again, sorry to necro this thread, I really didn't know that anyone else had this problem. Good to know that I have company in my misery.:p
