System: Windows XP, Professinal 2002 version
Computer: AMD Anthlon(tm) Processor, 1.01 GHz, 256 Ram
I hope that this is what you meant by configuration, if not please tell me exactly for which info you are looking for. I hope you can figure this out, because I tried reloading the game many times, from different sources. In some version there is no lever at all, in others its there but does nothing. I have only Thief but I do have the Gold patch installed, and it has been working fine with other games.

Seems that, so far, the problem is apparently caused by Thief:TDP with the Gold patch.
Has anyone had this problem using ThiefGold?
The only thing that I can think of that may be causing the problem is that I had to use a FrobProxy link to make it work. Maybe the lever box or the FrobProxy linkage isn't supported on Thief:TDP (even with the patch)?
BTW: The lever and first stone portal key are randomly placed at mission start, so you'll have to look for them each time. Random object placement improves replayability.

I don't know about any random placement cause 3out of 4 times the lever appeared in the same spot, 4 out of 4, the key in the same spot. Only once could I not find the lever anywhere, which I assumed was another bug

Xarax, all,
Tried it again using TG, instead of TDP; everything worked perfectly! First time the TG patch to TDP wouldn't let me play a mission. Guess we found the common denominator. Or one of them anyway.
Finished it up in about an hour. Used the walkthrough on one spot.
Loved it! Walking through walls, and teleporting through time blows me away! You are a true Sorcerer.
If you ever finish this trilogy, please let us know so I can play that one also. :thumb:

The lever can appear in one of 4 places:
In the first obelisk room on a corner shelf. In the first sunken square "niche" room that also has the health potion. In a niche near the sliding door that leads down to the dead sewer spider. In a niche near the first dead sewer spider.
The first stone portal key can appear in one of 4 places:
In a niche near the lift on the 1st floor. In a niche on the long ramp between the 1st floor lift and 2nd floor lift (just across from it is another niche with a gemstone). In a niche in the center column of the small square room on the 2nd floor near the lift. In a niche in the center column of another small square room just before the downward sloping hall to the "Old Towne Portal Room".
These locations are determined randomly at the start of the mission by 4 randomly patrolling AI in blue rooms. The first AI to trigger the placement wins. Afterwards, the AI are deleted.

I am not going to be arguing about random placement, maybe I haven't encountered it yet. But I would appreciate you trying to fix the lever. Is it possible to make adjustment and release another version without that gate for us taffers who don't have thief gold but only the patch?

This revision changes the lever insertion to open automatically the gate, which in turn illuminates Garrett. That should be enough for those Thief:TDP players with the Gold patch to get past that gate, and it doesn't affect much gameplay.

xarax,
I have the same lever problem that Viper6 has reported. But I have Thief Gold. I put the lever into the box, then try to frob the box and nothing happens. The lever doesn't move and the gate doesn't open.
I'll download the revision and see if that fixes it.

I downloaded the game again from your web site, there is no lever at all when I try to play. I looked in all 4 places you mentioned, and I cannot find it at all.

1. added a hint note about the chalkmark "X".
2. made the infamous gate unfrobbable so that Thief:TDP players won't get stuck by frobbing the gate itself to the shut position.
