Help! Bug is screwing game up... - by BoundVorticity

Hi. Can someone please help me sort out this frustrating bug? I know its a bug because I've finished the game once on easy difficulty, and am now trying to finish it on *gasp* realistic mode.
Remember when you have to transmit the NSF warning transmission in the warehouse part of New York? (when you find out your brother is getting ill & when you have to become a turncoat) I remembered getting a rude comm message from Walton Simons right after sending it, along with some XP and the 'Primary Goal Completed' note. However, this time around, I didnt get any such notes. I tried leaving it for a 'short' while, but 'short' became long - I've done the fightout at Paul's hotel room. (very hard if you try it on realistic and dont leave boobytraps around!)
Anyway, my DataVault still has not removed the 'Send NSF distress signal' from my primary objectives, I have not gotten XP for that, etc. Strangely, my dialogue with Paul said something about Walton Simons telling the troops to get me, even though he didnt due to this bug!
I know I have to reload - but everytime I reload, it still does not remove 'Send NSF distress signal' from my DataVault, nor give me XP, nor give me a rude message from Walton.
Does anyone have any suggestions to fix this? My Deus Ex has had the most recent 1.104 patch.

The easy solution is to reinstall as this excact bug happened to be due to the patch. Specifical the game fails to occasonaly sent infolink measages hence the goals fail to be updated exctera. If you continue you should be stuck after geting the sword. Hopefully this will be addreased in the snigle-player patch.
Hope this helps.
PS if you want both worlds try installing a new version in another directry so you have on multi and another for single if you have the space otherwise uninstall deus ex install a bare bones version patch it than install another version for single. By new version I of course me nonpatched.

I have forwarded this issue to Eidos, so hopefully they will address this in the next patch.

Thanks, guys. I think I'm just gonna give up playing it again. I thought 'Screw it' and played on - now I'm pretty far ahead already. I have to break into the Versalife building again after stealing the sword schematics. Too much deja vu to play it again, if you ask me.
Beats me how some ppl can play that game a few times through - it was *really* fun the first time, but once you know where to expect the bad guys, what happens, etc., it looses its fun. Some review did say that this game was good in all respects except replayability. I'd have to agree.

BoundVorticity,
First off, Eidos has responded already, and they have said that this has DEFINITELY been addressed and fixed in the upcoming patch, which will be out soon.
Secondly, I never read any reviews that said DX didn't have good replayability. As a matter of fact, every review I read said DX had some of the most replayability since it is not linear and you can build your character differently and you have multiple paths to take in getting the job done.
Anyhow, if you find it too dejavu, then take a break, and come back later. For instance, I just started another game of System Shock 2 after not playing it in over a year.

I actually beat the game about a few months back...and I can still remember where to find the good stuff, where to expect bad guys, etc. At least in System Shock 2, the bad guys respawn at different locations randomly, so youre always on your toes.
About the comment on replayability, I might have gotten the 'read a review' part wrong - it might have just as easily been by 'word of mouth'. It was several months back when it just came out, and I was wondering whether I should invest the money or not. All I remember is that there were some comments against its replayability, and some for - personally, I think the ones against its replayability were right.
How non-linear is the game? You still have to turn up double-crossing UNATCO. I think 'non-linear' would be more like the Baldurs Gate 2 rpg, where you can be bad, good, neutral, etc. The only really non-linear part of the game was near the end when you can choose 3 different endings. Note: endings. A little short non-linearity, no?

I agree w/Bound here. The game is not as non-linear as everyone made it out to be. The same events occur pretty much the same way each time and the "multiple paths" idea is a little limited by the size of the levels. It's less linear then most other shooters out there but it's still a rail ride compared to an RPG.
The main motivation for me to keep going was to see where the story went. After beating it I don't really have any great urge to play through it again, except maybe to play J.C. as a total asshole w/a big gun

OMFG!
The same thing is happening to me! I'm just past the shootout in Paul's hotel room after about 12 hours of gameplay. Except I have 2 completed objectives listed as "incomplete". 'Locate NSF generator' AND 'Send NSF distress signal'. So you're telling me that I missed out on the XP gained from completing these objectives AND that I'll eventually reach a point in the game where I'll be unable to advance any further?
WOW! This just ruined my day. What kinda QA they got over at Eidos? I wouldn't mind so much if this were my second or third time through the game (although I'm not the type to play a story based game more than once), but it's my first. RUINED! There's no way I'm going to replay the same 12 hours any time soon. That's like watching the first half of a movie, rewinding it, and then watching it over from the beginning again. Besides, I was playing it as it lays, if you take my meaning. Living with the mistakes I was making instead of loading the most recent savegame in order to right a wrong or take a different route. Now that I know the story up to this point, I'll be better informed as to the which decisions lead up to which circumstances.
Well, goodbye Deus Ex. For now anyway. I'll come back to it eventually (probably sooner than later since I was enjoying the heck out of it), but this is just inexcusable. Talk about leaving a bad taste in your mouth.

Now wait a minute. What's this about the game getting stuck after getting the sword. I've heard about people who have FINISHED the game and still have the "Send message to NSF" objective unfinished. Can someone tell me excactly how the game will be stopped after getting the sword?
Spitter on 31/1/2001 at 10:16
Indeed, the objectives "scuttle the ship" and "send meeting signal to the Illuminati leader (forgot his name)" never checked for me. But I never got stuck. (it may be because I started it unpatched and patched somewhere around Hong Kong, when I already had the sword)
