This is a strange problem, has it been reported before?
In Thief 1, and only Thief 1, I can't use the ctrl, alt, or shift keys for the toggle crouch command. It accepts it as the key in the options menu, but when I press it in the game, Garrett doesn't crouch! I can use these keys for any other command though. It's so hard for me to play Thief games without ctrl being crouch, it is a staple of my custom bindings. Help would be greatly appreciated.
On a related note, I've noticed that when I assign the W key to walk forward, then use the speed toggle key to try and run, it makes him creep instead of run. Any way to fix this? I prefer the T2 style walking by default setup.

You can certainly use ctrl for the hold-to-crouch command. I always used that and 'C' for the toggle-crouch.

I don't think there's any recourse, same thing happens to me, both in Thief 1 & SS2. Editing the binding files did not help. I did no try in Thief 2 but I assume it would be the same. The other actions I tried to assign to these keys worked fine, but not toggle crouch. In the end I just put toggle crouch on the space bar. Mixed up my keys a few times, but I got used to it in the end. Sort of.
