I've been playing Thief since I bought TDP in 1999 when my daughter was a toddler (she is now in college), but unfortunately, I have taken a long hiatus over the past 3-4 years or so and have missed the whole New Dark thing and the various enhancements and missions during that time. Getting back into things now, I am waxing nostalgic about a FM I played long ago and am hoping someone can name the mission based on my nebulous description of a scene:
I recall maybe taking a very confining elevator up and being in a control room of sorts where there was big row of windows - or maybe just one big, long window - looking out and down over a large vessel or craft of some sort with various guards patrolling. This was a mission more in the T2 vein than the TDP.
I know that is a vague description, but if anyone has a clue, I will pull out my old missions and files and see if I can confirm based on any input.
Thanks. Looking forward to replaying the missions from the "old days" and seeing what this New Dark thing is all about.
Regards,
Gajejean

Check out the Deep Trouble and Keeper Investigations series. Both feature subs heavily.
Also, are you positive you aren't thinking of the OM Precious Cargo. There was a big reveal moment similiar to what you described.

Thanks to both of you for the replies. I couldnt think of the mission author, but I am pretty sure it was John D now (thanks to suggestions). Now to find exactly which one - Deep Trouble sounds like it might be it.

Iceblade on target....confirmed just now that it was the Deep Trouble series. I wasnt aware of those great screenshot archives either (been gone too long...thanks nickie). You guys are awesome. Amazing that you can recall the mission with only such a bad/brief description from me. Then again, thats why I posted....knew someone would come through. Thanks again.

Welcome back to the fora, Gajejean! Glad you found what you were looking for.
If you're playing older missions, you should have no problems. But if you want to play newer missions that were created using New Dark, you'll need to install the New Dark patch (if you haven't already done so). It's pretty painless these day. There is a standalone program that will do all the work for you, called (
http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=131106) Tafferpatcher. It will install the latest version of the New Dark patch. Just be sure to read and follow the instructions and ask if you have any questions or problems.

Welcome back Gajejean!
Does your daughter play Thief as well?:D
Anyway, I've just recently came back as well and I updated my Thief game using TafferPatcher.
Apparently it installs something called FMSel which loads fan missions.
I was wondering if anyone out there could tell me what is the difference between FMSel and Darkloader since I've already got Darkloader installed.

Better filters but no immediate readme preview, you have to right-click and click the readme command, which opens up the readme in notepad.
FMSel is much much cleaner though. Clicking play from within it will redirect the engine to a subfolder that contains the installed FM files unlike Darkloader which installs by copying directly into the root Thief directory and uninstalls by deletion.

get better textures etc
FMSel doesn't really make for better textures, FMSel merely directs the game to load fan missions from a separate folder rather than unloading all the core files and replacing them with FM files temporarily to make it load the fan mission instead of the main game. As such, skacky, FireMage and Squadafroin's recent mission showed that Darkloader is better at loading some custom stuff than FMSel(the lua scripts which allowed an
enemy to instantly drown Garrett didn't load up in FMSel.)
