How come when playing via FMsel some textures look a lot crisper, cleaner and brighter whereas with Darkloader they are often more dull ?
when I was beta testing the Chalice of Souls I noticed a prime example was the water in the Keepers area, which when playing via FMsel was clear water but when playing via Darkloader it was murkier, greyer, and difficult to see through which meant I had a lot of difficulty finding the silver nugget at the bottom of the grotto.

I guess it's because FMSel loads some mods better than Darkloader?

Voodoo is the expert here, but this doesn't really sound right. Textures and mods and whatever else should load the same with Darkloader or FMSel, I would think. What seems more likely to me is that a mod somewhere is not being not being loaded at all, or maybe in the wrong order. Kind of like the conflict you get with the EP and t2water.
@fortuni, did you bring that up to skacky & crew during beta testing? Just curious what they said.
@SilenTaffer - the other advantage to FMSel is that it can correctly identify FMs made with New Dark as being T1 or T2 - Darkloader sees all New Dark FMs as T2 FMs.

@ brethren
Yes I did. the only comments were on the lines of 'that's interesting'. I posted screenshots but sadly I recently cleared out a lot of my photos on google photo+ to clear up space and no longer have my original screenshots.

The way in which FMSel and DL load mods has been posted somewhere - if only I knew where. Where is voodoo anyway?

Out of interest when beta testing I always play vanilla,ie no HDmod or NecroAge, but I guess when you guys are talking about mods that includes water.

We didn't investigate the water 'issue' too much. We didn't really have the time, anyway.

Yeah, mods are anything added to the base game - that includes t2water, t2skies, any of the EPs, NTEX, etc. cam_mod.ini (which is part of New Dark) determines what is loaded and in what order. But that's New Dark, and doesn't really have anything to do with Darkloader or FMSel, so I don't know why things would be different based on what loader you are using. Best to ask the men in the white lab coats I guess.

Welcome back Gajejean!
Does your daughter play Thief as well?:D
Anyway, I've just recently came back as well and I updated my Thief game using TafferPatcher.
Apparently it installs something called FMSel which loads fan missions.
I was wondering if anyone out there could tell me what is the difference between FMSel and Darkloader since I've already got Darkloader installed.
Ha! No, the daughter is not into Thief. I remember when she was younger, she would sneak into my "cave" and sneak a peak at me playing. She would try to imitate Garrett's vocalization when he was mantling onto something...and more than once she said would subsequently say "it's a long way down". Good memories. I tried to keep her from some of the bloody scenes and the scary stuff, but she was fascinated by the first person sneaking. Alas, she moved on to other things and Thief simply became the mysterious game that Dad played (and loved!!! and still do after all these years!). Both of my daughters still reference it even to this day - "that game Dad played". I was an addict for sure. Funny how my question about Deep Trouble led to such memories and also good info on FMSel and TafferPatcher too. Have missed lurking here greatly.

can't say for sure without actually dissecting the install in question, but that's probably the case - considering the way darkloader handles things, breaking mod/resource loading/priorities wouldn't be too surprising.
you can guess what my recommendation would be..
