I need help installing the newer fan missions. I have tried to install Death's Cold Embrace and Godbreaker. Both of them played the start up intro and I selected my difficulty level but when I clicked to start the mission it gave the following error message:
This mission needs a newer version, current version is 1.22. I downloaded the most up-to-date version and extracted the contrib.zip and newdark1.26 into my Thief folder. But to no avail.
I still have my original install disks with a 2000 date on them. I'm loathe to wipe everything off as I'm not even sure the disks will load properly.
All suggestions gratefully received?

things should work after applying the 1.26 files - are you still getting some sort of error message?
you could apply TafferPatcher, while slightly out of date and soon to be deprecated, it should still serve the purpose. or alternatively, you could buy the GOG version, it comes with 1.26 already loaded.

If you still get the error message saying you have 1.22 installed, it stands to reason you didn't apply the 1.26 patch properly. Voodoo is right, though, if you use Tafferpatcher that will at least get you to 1.25 which will work for both of those FMs.

I'm guessing he has one those old builds where the exe was not named properly, and by clicking the old shortcut, he is still launching the 1.22 exe despite having all the 1.26 files already extracted in the T2 folder. make sure you are launching thief2.exe, and things should work (as long as having an outdated game version was the only problem, that is).
also worthy of note is that unless the game has been installed from cds and patched to 1.18 manually before updating to NewDark, the chance of it being one of those 1.07/1.18 hybrid versions is almost 100%, so using either the patcher or the (
