Hi ALL
Just finished Thief 3 (was good but lacking something that the original had) anyway decided that I wanted to play Thief again and after uninstalling the game I tried to install Thief Gold and couldn’t! Got this message
‘cannot be installed on Windows NT due to Microsoft Direct x (tu) limitations.
WHAT??? Can anyone help?

Did you try the stickied, red-lettered FAQ near the top of the index page?
It helps handle common problems such as this.
...
This is probably what you were looking for:
Quote:
How do I install Thief on Windows 2000 or Windows XP?
Go to Start, then Run, then type d:\setup.exe -lgntforce, where d:\ is your CDrom/DVDrom drive. (note: that's -lgntforce, lowercase "L". If you're unsure, copy and paste it from here.) This problem arises because Win2K and WinXP are based on the NT kernel, which had DirectX support which was flaky at best. Thief needs DirectX to run, so, when the installer sees the NT kernel, it assumes that the game isn't going to be able to run and quits the installation. The -lgntforce switch tells the installer to ignore the NT kernel and install anyway.

excellrnt, thanks again it worked a treat. Played through the training and Bafford levels. Have to say I might have made a mistake. The graphics have dated horribly and some of the colour schemes are woeful. It's amazing how your mind changes things. Anyway will continue to play it through and hope the old magic is still there. Though they always say that you should never go back.:erg:

Just use your imagination! It should give you an idea of what's there, so even if you can't see the individual stones that make up the gravel, or the individual splinters in the beam, you still know they're there. Graphics are't everything, they certainly help, not they're not all there is.
