I'm in a weird lurch where I have almost no obligations left (read: finish my portfolio by Tuesday, finish a short story by tonight, and a final on Tuesday, all easy shit) and I wrapped up Dead Space last night, so now I'm stuck as to what I want to do, and I'm in a weird mood where I kinda don't feel like playing anything. Here's some of what I'm thinking of playing:
Some WW2 games like the Call of Duty series- Kind of a December tradition for me like sci-horror games like Dead Space or Doom, though not to the same extent. Not sure I want to do this, though as I'm kinda burned out on WW2.
Alien vs Predator, the second but maybe also the first- Sci-horror tradition as mentioned above. Kinda burned out on this as well though.
A bunch of mods for HL1/2- There's a few I never got around to playing, so I want to give them a try. Downside is, I really don't want to play anything that features Gordon as a general rule. That's just my big pet peeve about HLSP mods.
The Nameless Mod- Got it on DVD the other day, but I just finished Deus Ex so I don't know if I want to play more of it just yet.
Fallout 3- Really, really want to play this, but two things stopping me- I don't want to stop halfway through to play the games I might be getting for my birthday/Christmas, and I want to see if the DLC packs get one more patch or not.

Good luck on waiting for another official patch after v1.7, it likely ain't coming. Like with Oblivion, the community had to pick up the slack with FO3. Just install the comprehensive (

related question: Are the DLC packs for F03 combined yet on something other than a GOTY edition? Rather than buying all the different packs separately?
I think if you're interested a bit in WWII but not really sure about it I'd try out the new wolfenstein if you've got the cash to grab it. I was skeptical so I "tried" it out first and I think I'm going to buy it. It reminds me more of Thief DS more than any of the wolfenstein games of the past. You've got your town/district hub kind of setup with missions set up at various points that you can do in a somewhat flexible order. And so far I haven't gotten any generic fetch quests. It's not perfect but it's a good effort and despite all the little things i hate about it, it is really enjoyable so far. I've put it on my christmas list because I think it's worth the buy. And it doesn't feel too terribly much like a MOH/COD/BIA WWII shooter. (once you get past the first level)
They've also done really great things with the Doom engine. It looks/feels a lot better than doom3, especially the people and their skin tones. (previous comments about the zombie hands put aside)

Unless you don't buy any games for a few months you WILL be interrupted while playing FO3. That's OK though. It's very easy to get back into I found. And it does take a lot of time to see/collect/complete everything in the game. A LOT of time.
I'll also give my thumbs up to the Wolfenstein recommendation above. It's nothing groundbreaking, but it's pretty damn fun. And as always, the Wolfenstein games are a little different than your average WW2 shooters.
EDIT - To answer your question VA, a couple of the DLC are included in a standalone pack, but not all of them.

You'd pay about the same amount for the GOTY as you would for all 5 DLC separately, so it wasn't any skin off my nose.
I guess what I could do is play through TNM, then go ahead and install FO3 and just play 'til Christmas, picking it up again after New Year's or so.

You should just play/replay Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines, and be done with.
I might do the same, but I'm waiting for a Twilight-themed mod to come out first. My Edward Cullen Toreador can't go dancing to Lacuna Coil ensconced in laser-light and disco halo without the sparkle sparkle.

Installing Nameless Mod as we speak

I completed a fair slab of Fallout 3, got to level 19 and felt like I had completed most of the significant side quests (except for the nuka-cola challenge, fuck that) in under a month. Mind you I had a lot of free time on my hands at that point.
Like most modern games, it's a great game as long as you don't expect it to be something it isn't (i.e. earlier fallout games)

Why would you want more Bethesda patches for FO3? Last time I played through that, I had to completely uninstall, then reinstall and play with no patches because they introduced a bug in 1.1 causing an aggravating stall when using VATS, and never actually fixed it.
The feeling I got from the community was that you should just use 1.0, and use community 'patches' to allow DLC compatibility and avoid Bethesda's executable bugs.
