I'm currently working on a rooftop mission. I'm happy with what I've built so far, but each new building I make feels similar to buildings I've made. Similarly, each time I build a window leading to a room and a hallway etc, it feels the same as others I've built.
I think a good way to add variety would be to let a few other people do some building. I'm sure there are quite a few people who would like to do some building without having to think about a story or AI patrol routes. There are a variety of things that could be done:
* Add new areas with their own buildings
* Add simple interiors to your buildings, or to existing ones (a path through a building to take the player to a new area).
* Add some exterior details such as windows and doors.
* The player will be allowed to use the streets, so you could add a street section.
My plan is to use lots of guards to encourage the player to stay up, with the odd dash across the ground to get from one building to another. It won't be an A to B mission like Life of the Party, so it's important that it's as non-linear as possible.
So far my mission has basic textures on all buildings, plus some with windows and doors, and a few interiors. To jump through a window (e.g. from a rope) it needs to be about 6ft high, so I've made a few window textures to fit a 4x6 window. Feel free to add your own textures. It's worth adding that I want most of the buildings to have a poor feeling, so any additional textures should have a rather shabby look to them.
If anyone wants to do some building, let me know. There's no obligation, so if you have an idea and it doesn't work out, it's no trouble.

I would love to ... but ... my current mission has a fair amount of rooftop in it and I need to focus on it right now.

I'd like to help, but I'm trying to finish my contest mission in time. If you're still looking in a month or so, I'll be around.

This is very tempting. I would like to help you, but I'm also in the middle of something. I might be able to squeeze is some time for it here and there. How soon do you need this done?

I would like to help out Robin, but I am busy on 2 fm's one being a Team Work mission. I know my gritty building style would fit your description.:cheeky: Sounds like a cool mission though.

I'd like to help, too. But I've got to take these apples to grandma's house. :p

Bump!
I've made good progress with this mission. The existing terrain is properly textured. Roombrushing is done. Outside lights are done, as are most inside lights.
I've begun placing inside objects (beds and other furniture), but this is more sporadic. Some rooms are well stuffed whereas others are more like prison cells.
I'm happy with the mix of rooftops and streets, but it needs more. It's still quite linear. Sometimes you can go through a building instead of around, but that's not much a diversion.
Current stats:
2498 Terrain, 687 Object, 647 Room
Fits in an area sized 670(n/s) x 450 (e/w)
What can you do?
The four points in the first post still apply.
You can also:
* Bring places to life with more objects
* Change the existing lighting to look nicer
Perhaps you have an abandoned city/rooftop mission or your own. It could be added, in whole or in part, to my mission so that it will eventually see the light of day (or dark of night). Perhaps you've made a custom object but you don't have a mission in which to show it off.
What's in it for you?
* My FM has a some objects and textures that I haven't yet gotten round to releasing, but you could use them immediately.
* You can be creative (e.g. adding objects) without having to worry about the other things that a mission needs, e.g. objectives, a map etc.
* On Youtube there's a video of my dalmatian when he was little and it was his first day at my house. You can have the link! Currently only the beta testers of my last FM have been able to see it.
If anyone's interested, let me know.

Sounds good Robin :). Glad you're working on another mission and I hope you find the people you need to get this done.

Hello Robin!
I'm at a standstill with my mission right now, and would be happy to help with architecture/eye candy/decor, textures and building.
I have found that I flounder when left to my own devices building alone - but when I work with partners and have deadlines I accomplish quite a lot very quickly!
Ask Digi or Nightshifter if you'd like references.
I'll post some sample screenies of my work here when I get back from my appointment - hope you still need someone - this may be just what I need as well :)
